Final Fantasy Rebirth Some i’ve left out are Red Dead Redemption, Demon’s Souls Remake, Doom, Rondo of Blood, The Old Hunters (DLC), Crisis Core, INTERmission (DLC), Hitman 1, FF XVI DLC, Ace Attorney 5. Really connected with Bioshock infinite during my platinum playthrough too but had played it before so didn’t include it! Beat Death Stranding for the first time also and didn’t connect with it at all bar the first 10-15 hours.

I moved from gaming on Xbox 360 to PC, and it can be frustrating at times. However, Steam and the Steam Deck are surprisingly user-friendly. I hope you enjoy trying the Portal. And I hear you (and Dustin, and Ben, and Brad...) and for Steam Deck specifically I think it boils down to: I simply don't like fiddling with PCs anymore. Here's an example: tonight I looked up a guide to hack my Wii U (long story) and all the comments on the forums said "it's so easy!" but I lost enthusiasm just reading through the instructions. I gotta be honest, ever since I left tech support as a job I have no motivation to do anything that feels like tech support at home. Granted, I do have the fix the printer whenever it breaks but when it comes to my hobbies: I want the plug and play ease of a console because PC isn't a relaxing space for me. Some people enjoy the fiddly aspect of toggling settings and tuning everything in just-so but I find it to be an obstacle. The PS Portal holds more promise for me and we already have one so Colin can help me get it all setup to try it out and see if I like it. I too never played the OG game but had an awesome time with Rebirth. Am I missing some references and context for some moments? Of course, but I don't feel lost in the story, and I still was able to follow it in large tbh (outside of typical JRPG fuckery as mentioned in a previous comment). I feel like hardcore OG fans can never see this side of things - because obviously, they played the original and know the story inside out - so they just shut down new fans and tell them that they didn't understand anything that was going on. But trust me when I say I still enjoyed Rebirth as a new fan and was happy with the story as presented to me. Maybe it's a case where it's a game that appeals to long time fans with all the changes to the OG, nostalgia etc - but can also be enjoyed by newcomers like me. I think that just speaks to what a special game this is. Looking forward to Part 3

Story is a step back from the first one in both direction and content. The controls feel slightly wonky when compared to other shooters. Menu system is god awful to manage and on harder difficulties this can (and did in my playthrough) get you killed. Abby is a better campaign to play even though you may not want to. Ellies is so repetitive it becomes not fun later on. The overall length of the game is ridiculously too long. #endrant

It’s not really about confusion, It’s about tone, the reliance on nostalgia, what changed and why it’s relevant along with much more. You can still enjoy it, but without all the context of the original you aren’t really going to get the remakes as intended

Nothing lands emotionally or narratively as intended without the context of the original. It relies on you knowing the OG FF7 and specifically, you won’t understand what’s changed and why that matters. You can play and enjoy whatever you want, but these games are for people who played the original game and you should play it anyhow, it’s still amazing.

Sure, they're both first person stealth games with large, open levels and you can throw bottles at enemies in both games, but that's where the comparisons end. They feel completely different in character movement and gameplay. I think Matty and Dustin need to go back and play Dishonored, because it's nothing like Indiana Jones.

Also, Colin, off-topic but I’m replaying TLOU P2 on PS5 Pro and it is absolutely incredible. You’re right, it’s a 10/10 game. Go install it and check out the graphics, I’m blown away by the detail, even more so than Horizon FW.
