Changes to Pledges Starting July 1st
Added 2020-05-30 21:36:24 +0000 UTCPatrons will be charged again June 1st, but I also want everyone to know that starting July 1st, Patreon will have rules to charge sales tax on pledges.
This is because of new laws passing in many countries, including the USA. Whether or not you will be charged sales tax depends on your location. Not every pledge is taxable, and sometimes only a fraction of a pledge will be taxable.
For most, the amount will be very small. For example, sales tax rates in the US range from 4% to 11%, so on a $5 pledge, that would be between 20 cents and 55 cents. If you live in a location where sales tax is required, you should expect to receive an email from Patreon with more information.

I understand if some patrons are frustrated by this; I am too. Don't worry if you have to reduce your pledge amount or pause your Patreon for a while. In times like these, it's important we take care of our finances.
