The Impossible (2012) - REACTION

People asked me to react to this film after watching Society of the Snow because the director, J.A. Bayona, directed both movies. I knew I was in for a rough, emotional ride but I didn't expect to sob my whole way through the movie. From the 20 minute mark, I was a goner. This film was harrowing, emotional, terrifying, jaw-dropping, inspiring and did I already say, EMOTIONAL? I've never cried so hard at a film before in my life, it was ruthless. Tears upon tears upon tears. Wow, I adored it but I don't think I'll ever watch it again. It crushed me.

my nana was in the maldives, luckily she was up high and the maldives waves didn’t hit above 4 meters- i cannot imagine how south asia felt on that day watching their homes be swept away

this film is so heartbreaking. and a lot of the extras were actual survivors of the tsunami, they brought them in to be a part of the film.

I literally thought about it for MONTHS and throw up doesn’t even bother me usually😭

-Weirdly enough I didn't cry much in this movie until he finds Martin and reunited him with his dad and then I was done. - also when Thomas has to step up and take care of his brother as the oldest of the 2 boys. Like he is only 6 or so but the younger one is only like 3 so he has to be the strong one 😢

The scene when the mom is bringing up/coughing up the, I think, it's seaweed fully traumatized me.

I really appreciate the fact that they cast the correct nationalities for the tourists. It would’ve been easy to cast English speaking actors and have them put on an accent - but hearing real accents and languages made the film realistic and added to the horror of it all. Also happy with the Swedish rep in both Daniel and the Bernström family, considering the fact that Swedes were one of the biggest tourist groups affected by the tsunami. Btw, the first time I watched this I was on a plane flying over the Indian Ocean, you can imagine how well that went :)

The fact that the only Americans in this whole movie are just cold and selfish arseholes is so funny to me.

Could not agree more. I thought every scene was needed, nothing overstayed it's welcome, no moment dragged and every character / actor was used to their best ability to drive the story forward. It's truly one of the best yet most horrific films I've ever watched!! 😖

alright just finished and phew 😮‍💨 that’s such a tough one to watch. i was the same as you just absolutely sobbing my way through it. every actor used in this film felt so important; from the natives to the woman looking at the stars with the little one. i just felt every character was used beautifully to tell this story.
