Megan had shat all over Arthur during the times he tried asking her out that he knows the smell of her bullshit now. Hell, even if Megan was truly serious, her chances with him are long gone now. Fact they got so far in life and stayed like this means their own ego is worth more to them than seeking honest relationship, even if they dont realize it. Yes they can change, from my experience it takes some big event in their life, most universal being death of close person. All I say if she changed, I would expect it to be caused by something sudden. Not the slow burn you suggest, thats hard to believe.
