The Most Disgusting Anime Girl of All Time - Yamai Ren [Komi Can't Communicate]

There is nothing I love more than complaining about things I don't like, and that's exactly what this video is.

I've been grossed out by this character since S1. However, I've been watching Komi S2 with a friend, and she found Yamai and her scenes disgusting as well. Once I realized I wasn't the only one, I started looking around on forums and social media, and lo and behold, NOBODY likes Yamai, so I figured there was a market for this video.

Other than that, not much else to say. No flashy editing, just hammering a point home. I used to worry so much about slick editing, until I realized nobody really cares about it. I don't care about it when I'm watching a video; the most that happens is I think "oh, that's neat," and go right on watching.

I just don't bother with flashy edits anymore, I take that effort and put it into the script and voiceover.

Thank you guys as always. To all my continuing patrons, thank you for supporting me, and to the new ones, thank you for joining. Also, thank you to the people who read these little blog posts. I'm pretty sure it's like three people lol.

Now I've got to go figure out what the next video's gonna be.

I always considered Yamai in the same category as Mineta from MHA. In that their supposed to be a mirror for the more degenerate side of the fan base, pointing out creepy and pathetic that kind of behavior is. Still, I'm in total agreement, Yamai is trash.

I will never forget when you talked about the effort that went into killing the bees with fire created in paint, and putting the sniper rifle into the frames in those two Totally Legit Recaps, and then you made a recap with very little of that stuff and nobody even noticed until you pointed it out. XD The paint fire was neat indeed. But about the video: I agree that a perverted character needs to receive punishment. To me this looks like the Japanese are doing trial and error with everything, in the hopes of standing out. I heard that Redo of Healer was successful at doing that. Then there's that show with 4 lolis that represent endangered species and do nothing but have smalltalk and have tea or whatever (which made more people go to zoos). And it's just hilarious that the Mangaka of Spy x Family doesn't really care about that show and just wrote whatever in order to get rid of writer's block. And I guess currently they're experimenting with trying to use the perverted character trope on girls, but they still need to figure out which ways of punishing these girls is appropriate. Labyrinth of Flames did a much better job though, and that show is kinda old already, so Yamai Ren is a huge step backwards.

Hey. Thank *you* for making the little blog posts. I've always enjoyed them.

Flashy editing is an odd one, you can spend 90% of your time working on something that only 10% of the audience will consciously notice.

So, I don't watch much anime, aside from the main ones (spy X family, boko no hero, etc) So I appreciate I can live vicariously through these videos. I can seee what they're going for with this humor, but yeah, having a sweet innocent girl taken advantage of in ways she can't defend against is terrible. I mean, it's not as bad as taking an utter bad ass like Asuna and have an actual sexual predator keep her hostage, but it's still pretty bad.

Interesting that when you first talked about Komi Can't Communicate, you didn't use Tonkatsu because you wanted to talk about Komi's social anxiety seriously and Tonkatsu is designed to be "totally fucking ridiculous" but now she's called upon to review/skewer Yamai (who totally deserves to be skewered, literally).

This is part of the reason why I didn't watch season 2 or any more seasons if they keep coming, which they probably will. In my own review of the first season I said this: "I can’t help but feel if I were to recommend the series it would be the manga and not the anime I bring up. Why? Well there’s this cringe factor that exists in the anime that is not in the manga, I’m not sure why, if it’s the animation or the voice acting that does it, but I have never felt the need to put a volume of Komi down because it was just too much. On the other hand I had multiple times had to pause an episode of Komi just to steel myself for some moments, because they are just too embarrassing. It hits differently. On paper I can separate myself from the manga, take things at my own pace, digest them slowly. In the anime there’s no panels or turning of a page, everything comes at you like a steady train and you are stuck on the tracks."
