Why Anime Romance Sucks - My Dress-Up Darling Episodes 7-12

I wasn't sure if I was going to finish this one before the end of the month. I'm glad that I did so I can be done with this show and move on to something else.

I really had high hopes for MDD in the beginning. The characters and premise were so cool. All it had to do was not stick to the shitty anime romance formula, and that's what it ended up doing.

I don't hate the show, and I'll probably watch future seasons if they happen, I just hate the formula and I'm sick of it. This video is basically all my pent-up bitterness from over a decade of watching anime characters not get together.

In short, REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Anyway, on to the next video. I've gotta watch season 2 of Komi, so I'm guessing that's going to be the next one I do. As always, thank you guys for being here. I wouldn't be able to do youtube without you. Feel free to DM if you have any questions or if you want to join the discord.

Crossposting from YT: IN GENERAL I agree with you. In this specific instance though, respectfully, as a Patreon, and someone who recommended the anime on stream at one point, I hard disagree. I might be suffering a bit from foreknowledge as a manga reader -- same for Kaguya-sama -- but keep in mind that we're at the end of a single cour of MDUD. Those twelve episodes happen within the span of a single semester. Episode one is shortly after the start of the school year (~April) and episode 12 is a summer festival (July-August). To me, that timeline absolutely tracks.

Best part about Tsuredure Children is you get a buffet of romances to pick from, with all different levels of spiciness. From the 'so sweet I got type 2 diabetes' to 'horny on main'. As for The Duke of Death and His Maid, it introduces a mechanic in the series as to why these two can't bone. And it's actually a good reason, not something as dumb as "oh no, not the sex! My poor virgin eyes, how embarrassing."

Thank you for the recommendations, I'm always looking for good romance shows that don't follow the formula.

Yes! Komi S2 is currently airing. I think there are 4 episodes out now.

You pretty much called it. This is the problem with 99% of RomCom anime, no commitment in the relationship. I'd recommend, by the by, if you want a good high school RomCom to try Tsuredure Children. If you just want a good non-school RomCom, give The Duke of Death and His Maid a shot.

I was quite interested in getting your expert opinion on the second half. I do like the show for the most part but I was pretty afraid they are going to spend an entire second season playing the Mulder-Scully will-they-won't-they. Assuming it gets a second season. Also, Komi has a second season?!?! It's worth being a patron just to get good news like this!
