On the other side of the clearing, the girls' fight began. Xochil and Gunvarr both eyed each other with a mixture of interest and rivalry. They felt that the other was just as dominant as they were and that no one would be willing to submit to their rival voluntarily. Both women were used to commanding, were warriors and had so far won almost all of their duels.
It was clear that none of the girls would voluntarily submit.
It was about a lot, a great deal. Not only that the loser was threatened with the worst humiliation by the winner, no, in the event of a defeat, Xochil would have to lose grazing rights with her people and would have to move far away to the less fertile areas inland. Gunvarr and her group had found something like a little paradise here. Should she succumb to the chief's daughter, she would lose everything and would have to start the dangerous, long journey home immediately, only provided with the bare essentials and a ship that was not in the best condition at the moment.

Auf der anderen Seite der Waldlichtung begann nun auch der Kampf der Mädchen. Xochil und Gunvarr musterten sich beide in einer Mischung aus Interesse und Rivalität. Sie spürten das die jeweils andere genauso dominant war wie sie selber und dass keine bereit sein würde sich freiwillig der Rivalin zu unterwerfen. Beide Frauen waren es gewohnt zu kommandieren, waren Kriegerinnen und hatten bisher fast alle ihre Zweikämpfe gewonnen.

Es war klar, keine der Mädchen würde sich freiwillig Unterwerfen.

Es ging um viel, um sehr viel. Nicht nur dass der Verliererin schlimmste Demütigung durch die Siegerin drohte, nein Xochil müsste im Falle einer Niederlage mit ihrem Volk die Weiderechte verlieren und müsste weit wegziehen, in die weniger fruchtbaren gebiete ins Landesinnere. Gunvarr und ihre Gruppe hatten hier so etwas wie ein kleines Paradies gefunden. Sollte sie der Häuptlingstochter unterliegen verloren sie alles und müssten die gefahrvolle, weite Heimfahrt sofort antreten, nur mit dem Nötigsten versehen und einem Schiff, dass im Augenblick nicht im besten Zustand war.
