16. Bagan - City Of Temples

I'm excited to release this video accompaniment to Episode 16 on the kingdom of Bagan, now with video accompaniment - currently for patrons only. The setting of this episode is so visually stunning that I've been really looking forward to sharing this one with you. As always, we're able to afford some of the world's top footage because of the generous contributions of all our patrons, and I can't thank you enough for making this possible.

Thanks again and I hope you enjoy!

Paul

Any news on when we can expect a new episode?

I don't know about soon, but it is coming!

Hi Paul, is Episode 17 coming any time soon?

There are an increasing number of academic archaeological videos being prproduced on the Indus (Harappan) Culture area. Unfortunately, there are no stories beyond those told by the stones. The 'ending' is also unclear. Nevertheless, an Indus episode beginning with Merhgarh would help to place the Indus on a similar level in the public's mind with other early culture hearths.

Hi Hannah! Yes I think you're right it would be incomplete without a look at the city of Babylon. I will probably do one at some point!

Hello - I keep wondering if you are you planning an episode about Babylon? It feels like the missing piece with the Sumerians and Assyrians. Anyway, thank-you. I love what you do. All the best. Hannah

You out did yourself again. I knew nothing about this history, nothing. I learned so much, because I often wondered why their form of Buddhism is more violent. Now I know. Why two names for the country, now I know. You were very brave going there. The video was great. Getting to see the places you were talking about. Thank you so very much for this valuable history lesson

You too can be a nice person

There were some technical problems for me, but I discovered they came from my computer, not the video itself- thank you for your helpful responses. I love these episodes- they really are filtering in to my understanding of what we are going through now in our civilization. I tell people about them. There was a recent news item from Huffpost that a friend drew my attention to- a paper from NASA, saying that there have not been any discoveries of life on other planets, and theorizing that all intelligent life forms may reach a point where they collapse due to reaching the same tipping points we are approaching here. https://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/2210/2210.10582.pdf- that is the link to the paper.

Thanks! Yes it is a new thing

I just saw the chronological playlist on youtube, and I love it so much! It’s cool to see the episodes in relation to each other like that. Also, I’m about to watch the whole series again with my kid, who hasn’t seen them yet and asked if we could watch them chronologically. I don’t know how long this list has been up, but I just found it and it’s awesome, so thanks!

Green Fox in Rainbow Socks!

Did you try AirPlaying it from your phone on TV? I find this the easiest way and it worked for me.

Is it possible to play on YouTube on TV? I have not been able to play it there. Is there some secret I need to know? The podcast will play, but not the video…

Everything changes and nothing changes. A wonderful story well told. Thank you ! David

This and all your videos have been amazing. We watch them many times each. I do have one small request, haha. Your videos make us want to visit these places! My wife and I LOVE the geology, geography, history, archeology lessons we get from each one... now all we need a brief travel guide! Would this be too anti-climactic in your story of the "Fall" of each civilization? We would love--and use--a description of how we might go see these places ourselves! To get such great footage, you obviously must go to these places with a high-quality drone. But, some of them, like Ur seem like they might be off limits to non-archeologists or too dangerous to go see? If you gave a few tips on a guide or company to use or not use, or if one is needed. How safe you felt going there yourself, what to look out for, what to do or not do once we get there. We especially want to go to Petra and see the ruins of the Nabateans, Vijayanagara, Ur, Constantinople (haha, yours is the only channel that makes us want to go to these places). But we don't know if we can or should go or if we can trust the companies that say they can guide us to them. Might guides or travel companies want to be a sponsor for you, potentially? Just an idea. Keep up the great work! Thanks again :)

Wonderfully informative and picturesque. Thanks for all the effort -- it really shows. How remarkable that the Irrawaddy and the Nile are mirror images of one another: flowing in opposite directions, with prevailing winds allowing their people to sail upstream against the current -- clearly a condition favorable to building great civilizations. Unfortunately, Myanmar's lack of surrounding barrier deserts left it more vulnerable to invasion, but even in ruins it retains its ethereal beauty. Well done!

Beautiful production. 🤗

Does it say the video does not exist? Or that I do not have rights?

Kenny Sweetman

Great video, it really enhances the story. Already looking forward to the next episode. Rather intrigued by these 'laughing ogres'. Could it be an interpretation of some natural occurrence? Aggressive monkeys perhaps?
