[Tier 3] Kingdom Legendary War EP.10 (part 1)

Sooooooo....yeh! You were right.

This ATEEZ performance is unparalleled.

Not to mention, SKZ and The Boyz killing it in their own ways.

No need for comment. Watch us melt for yourself. :')

My skz did amazing 🔥

🦔

Ateez was so creative, the best performance for me and San! What a charisma!! So sad there was no Mingi...

Matsu Makky

It’s not yet 100% confirmed but apparently Xikers will be on the next road to kingdom . Just sayin… 😇

Karigan

The Boyz song is one of the most streamed songs for me from this show. When watching this when it aired I wasn't so familiar with most of the groups, outside SKZ and Ateez. Sure I was aware of iKon and BtoB but not really familiar. SF9 was fully new. Now I'm fan of all of them. Especially Boyz gained my interest.

Jan 잔

everytime I watch kingdom I am reminded of how many great performances we were robbed of by missing Mingi and Hyunjin

Newfiii

Luckily, ATEEZ made The Real a title track at their end-of-year album release, and it's so incredibly iconic as a video, though of course it will be a while before you get there! It really is great as a standalone, but they did release an album with remixed versions of the Kingdom songs that include Mingi's sections, and that makes them so, so special. His rap on The Real is incredible just as Hong Joong's was incredible (but different!) in the Kingdom stage. And yes, the behind-the-scenes for this performance for them is a must, because this was much less structured and members were able to contribute their own thoughts/ideas into the stage. And if you think San looks badass here (he does) wait until you see the video!

Kay Popped

So the idea was the finale would be a song never heard before. Some composed it specifically for Kingdom (I think the Boyz did this, as an end to their whole journey), and some (Ateez) used it as an opportunity to premier a new song they were already intending to release (Wait till you see the music video!). Ateez are the youngest according to debut date, not actual age. And the whole time during the meal on the rooftop, they were spoiling and teasing their performance. The only member of Ateez that is from Seoul is Jongho, the others are from mostly rural areas, and several have slight to heavy regional accents, with San and Seonghwa being the most likely to use satoori. They each made a deliberate point to use phrases and accents during the meal that reflect the lines or dialect they sing in the song. This is the sort of hinting and teasing they do so well that we never pick up until afterwards...but I've now seen Kingdom several times and it's obvious now. (Also, they are currently spoiling their next comeback, and we can't make head's or tails of it, it's so weird and specific). The different ways they speak is why The Real exists as a song. That is how they really speak, their true selves, pure honest badass style, right down to Jongho breaking an apple in half at the end, which is the very first video that ever went viral. And them thanking the other groups and inviting them to dinner, right in their own final performance, on the banners. Ateez style isn't to compete, not really. They are playing an entirely different game, and everyone is welcome to break down the wall. (Guerilla reference). There is a reason that Answer was mixed with "Ode to Joy"...they threw away the crown and danced for pure joy instead. Joy IS the Answer, and Ateez has always been playing a very long game. The intro to "The Real" was actually a different song, which you will adore when you hear it. The super intense synth part with them walking in all tough? That's "The Leaders". Which, of course, they are, and strive to be. So it's a perfect way of getting a second taste of Ateez in there for the public...they literally manage to slip in spoilers everywhere! To this day, The Real is used as the last song in their concerts to get everyone hyped one last time. Each time, they decide ahead of time which pair will do the dance break, but they don't plan the dance, they freestyle it onstage, reacting to each other, and usually trying to make the group laugh. There are compilation videos just of that dance break that go on for ages, all different. One day, when you react to the legendary Ateez K-Con 2022 stage, you will see the hype!

J

I don't know if it was mentioned already but just before this live show, San had lost is grandfather which is why he seemed a bit subdued during the pre-recording before the performance. He was very close with his grandparents. Seeing his performance though you wouldn't have guessed he was still grieving.

Sinbad

Exactly haha but oh well, I have had like 2 years to heal lmaoo but back then I shed some frustration tears ngl

Kiara

It's a pity Mingi's rap was removed from the performance. It's such a powerful and hard hitting rap. The dance break is where Mingi's rap would normally be. You guys should definitely watch the behind the scenes video for ATEEZ making The Real stage. It's very interesting

Eva Minster

Whoa B-side?!! That's crazy. Can't imagine what the title track sounds like if that's the B-side track XD

Handsome Sausages

Absolutely! :D We're looking forward to it

Handsome Sausages

We did think they were too natural with it - no wonder!!! While they may have slightly lost the dialect working as ATEEZ in Seoul, one simply does not completely lose it XD

Handsome Sausages

Yesss while we enjoyed the stage, it may not have been the best choice to go for VCR footage for this kind of stage :(

Handsome Sausages

And my gosh, having Xikers would be amazing.

Handsome Sausages

That indeed was the biggest surprise or, well, where we gave the most points when it comes to this performance by ATEEZ - that they be having fun with that SKZ energy!! - and while we cannot discredit ANY group in this episode (or for that matter, in all episodes), we do agree the VCR bits may have been a disadvantageous move considering the color of the show in general :( while WE enjoyed it, it probably didn't translate well to many viewers! We're also sad it's almost over, but we got so many more to come like you say, so :D let's keep it cominnnnn!

Handsome Sausages

XDXDXD YESSSSSS!!

Handsome Sausages

As expected. Given how Korea is SUPER good when it comes to ANYTHING internet/app for customers in general, it's a shame they ALWAYS seem to suck when it comes to idol related apps specifically created for the global fans, GRANTED Korea likely has little control over THAT app specifically. I mean, if it's meant for the global fans, I'd imagine Korea should treat it like their local apps a bit more but, what do we know about techs :/ sigh

Handsome Sausages

oh I was totally gonna question about the emptiness - of COURSE it was for Hyunjin :') they're just such a solid TEAM I love it. We can't wait to see what the version with Hyunjin looks like!! And like you say, can't wait for the rest of the finale! :D

Handsome Sausages

Well thank you for this essay - we thoroughly enjoyed it XD One thing we found funny/fascinating is the whole thing with the Whosfan app - we suspected that it may be a mess and I was trying to jokingly say that 'well the app probably didn't work, knowing how they build the thing when it comes specifically to idol / voting apps for such shows, so there probably was no global fan voting' but missed the timing hahaha turns out, so many people ACTUALLY had issues. tsk tsk...

Handsome Sausages

I don’t think you guys are ready for it! It’s amazinggg. They’ll probably tour next year again. I’ve probably missed where you guys are from, but if from the states, they’re definitely coming next year!

Stephany Sandoval

Again, totally makes sense why it'd be the encore /closing song! It's totally hype!!!

Handsome Sausages

I mean, closing song it is so we can see why they'd choose that one! It'd be so awesome to see it live :') one day, one day.

Handsome Sausages

Agreed! This show turned out to be way more heartwarming and positive than we ever thought! And we're so for it!

Handsome Sausages

Thought so! Thanks for the clarification! :D

Handsome Sausages

Can't imagine the hype though!!!!

Handsome Sausages

oh dang :'( that IS sad but also, much respect if HJ really meant to be that way

Handsome Sausages

In our defence, it sounded very different XD

Handsome Sausages

I totally felt that The Boyz "Kingdom Come" could have been the title track for the album they released post kingdom, however it was just a B-Side on there. Same with SF9's "Believer", they had it as a B-Side and "Tear Drop" was their title track. "Kingdom Come" was for Kingdom what "The Stealer" was for Road to Kingdom, a Finale song that can stand alone as a KPOP Comeback Title Track. All the groups killed it, and I can't wait for you to react to the last 3 performances, and the Special Vocal Performance... It's SOOO GOOD!

Zesti

After kingdom you should definitely watch kingdom week that was the prize for the winner

Joanne

Fun fact about the Satori used in Ateez's performance the members chosen for each Satori line actually grew up either speaking it or hearing it. San and Seonghwa both use Gyeongsang, with San being from Namhae, South Gyeongsan, and Seongwha being from Jinju, Gyeongnam, every now and then that will go back and forth with each other in their native dialects. Yunho used Jeollado as he is from Gwangju and Wooyoung used Chungcheongdo which is the accent his father grew up with, and of course Jongho used the Seoul accent as he is the only member actually born in Seoul.

elvenmagick

Age-wise the youngest members on the show were I.N from SKZ (Feb 2001) and Eric from TBZ (Dec 2000), which was why they were the ones to do the oath on Sports Day, as they were the respective teams Maknae's. Although Jongho is not far behind them as his B-day is coming up (Oct 2000).

Zesti

I believe that the arm bands had two meaning here, one being for Sannie's grandfather...

Zesti

I find that the The Boyz stage stands out from the others because of how much VCR they used. It just doesnt seem as fun and live because it keeps cutting to the footage. But their dance break is really great. Ateez and SKZ just stand out so much for me in this half. But all the finale songs are so good. Honestly, all the groups put in such hard work and that is why I keep rewatching this show.

lillie450

I do agree with you guys that Ateez's performance was outstanding. The Real is such a great song, even to this day when they add it to their concerts and stages. I really like how you can see they have FUN. They used the stage well, without being too showy, the link between the music was clear and also "This is what real taste is" as a message just fits all of the members so well. Yet they all were so different, San ofcourse the bad ass gangster steals my heart every time. But Yunho with the bucket hat as well. I really enjoy SKZ's performance as well, I knew the song before I watched Kingdom so I knew I liked that one, but seeing it performed this way is so awesome. There's a very clear concept, they use the set-design really well too. The Boyz' performance in my opinion was a bit dissapointing. I don't want to hate on them because I love the song and they did a good job, but to me the use of VCR during the performance felt like cheating in a liveshow. I didn't mind the intro, but the scenes with the fire, although really good, just didn't fit the right stage vibe for me. However I do want to compliment them on their dancing, because as Kingdom made clear, synchronised dancing is really their thing and they do it so well (honestly their choreographer(s) do such a great job!). I do think having a large number of members is a big advantage for that as well. But their dance really was the only point of the live-part. They didn't use any setdesign, other than the water-pit (which was cool, I'll give them that). Now I don't know how much of that has to do with unfair decisions happening behind the scenes at Mnet/Kingdom. But it just made it so that it doen't compare to the other stages. I also really want to comment on how good of an MC Changmin is. Ofcourse he is reading from his cue-cards etc. But he always does such a good job. And even beside the presenting, he seems like such a kind and caring Sunbae to the groups. There are clips from behind the scenes where you can really tell that he cares and wants to check in on everyone and even gives them advice. I am sad that it's almost over because I really enjoyed rewatching it with you guys. I want a new season of Kingdom too! I would be interested in hearing which groups you guys would like to be invited if they did it. For me some choices: Enhypen, TXT, NCT/WayV. I think they're all groups that would really fit well with performance-based shows and thematic performances. Ofcourse these are all groups that are very popular already, so maybe seeing some of the newer groups would be cool too (Boynextdoor, Xikers etc.).

SaarCookie

The part of me that imprinted on The Jungle Book at a formative age will forever be weak to wolf concepts!

sysrae

I am an ATINY and woke up early to watch the Kingdom Finale so I could vote and see the results live. The Whosfan app was horrible and it was crashing. So many International fans could not even cast their vote, including myself. I was so upset lol none of my friends could get their votes through either, it was so frustrating.

Kiara

Honestly even as a diehard skz fan, i loved the Ateez performance so much! Everything about their piece, from the music to the dance to just the screw-this vibe where they just came out to have fun, was so perfect and such a fitting finale for their Kingdom journey! I also just wanted to point out how everything SKZ did in terms of choreography for woflgang left a space unfilled, and hd an empty spot - as a homage and shoutout to hyunjin (you can see this super clearly when theyre all climbing on the wolves' backs and theres a glaring empty spot on the right hand side). Even in all their interviews, you can see the way they intentionally keep the visual imbalanced, to make sure we know there's someone missing who should have been there. Just the way they kept hyunjin in their minds and hearts throughout the whole Kingdom era made me cry so much. Also yall the songs really were created and released just for Kingdom! They got included in albums later on. There's a version of Wolfgang with Hyunjin in it, and you can see how much it means to all of SKZ while performing it! If yall are ever interested let me know and i can find the link for it! All the groups did so well, and i cant wait for you to see Ikon, BtoB and SF9s performances!

anushkakusum

Essay time! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ So, yeah. This was all the way live and we were voting our butts off during the show - well, trying to vote since the Whosfan app decided to start crashing halfway through the show (ノ`□´ )ノ⌒┻━┻ - it was super stressful. It's funny that you mentioned the time that the show might have aired. I think they took the global fans into account when they aired it because I remember that I didn't have to stay up super late to watch it. It was on around 8am for me - so I could watch it after I had already gotten up - which is rare because I'm half a day behind KST and they like to do everything mid-day there, so comeback season has me walking around like a no-sleep zombie. lol Since you asked for clarification, when they said ATEEZ was the youngest, they were talking about debut date - Even though they weren't that far from Stray Kids, they were the last to debut: BtoB (2012) iKON (2015) SF9 (2016) The Boyz (2017) Stray Kids (March 2018) ATEEZ (October 2018) For clarification on the final songs - they written specifically for the final stage of Kingdom and the groups released the audio prior to the final stage so that we could stream it before we got to watch the performance. They did get to keep the rights to the songs, so "The Real" was released by ATEEZ and they created a M/V called 멋(The Real) (흥 : 興 Ver.) so that they could include Mingi. Wolfgang was released on the NoEasy Album (we didn't get an M/V though) and it included Hyunjin as well. Lastly, I often go back and watch the dance break from The Boyz' performance. They are just so damned good and the micro-movements they make during that section are insane. Besides, anything with Center Q gets my attention. I can't wait for y'all to see the last performances. Of the remaining, I would say iKON is my favorite (very fun), but you'll definitely enjoy them all.

Yep, I'm Liberty

Well, THE REAL IS ALWAYS ATEEZ’s ENCORE PERFORMANCE in concerts!!! It just gives a different level of energy!!! 😂 Plus… for the dance break at the last part, they always do that differently! So it’s always fun to watch!!!

Red 18

Ateez actually did The Real as their closing songs on tour. It was so cool!! Also! The part in The Real where they had a dance break (in the middle) that’s Mingi’s rap part on the original song that came out at the end of that year.

Stephany Sandoval

thank you for saying it, I laughed out loud when they said that :D

lillie450

I've watched Kingdom so many times and at 1st I fell into the same thoughts that it was a popularity contest bcuz I was listening to others opinions as a new kpop stan and not thinking for myself. So those that had more fans were the obviously the winners (but it wasn't like that in my opinion). After watching and rewatching this competition over 15 times I noticed how close the numbers were, how big and supportive ALL the fandoms were, and how no one was getting absolutely slaughtered by a lack of votes. And how those at the bottom one day were at the top another day and it was absolutely deserved. And those at the top fell to the bottom and it was absolutely deserved... (except StrayKids "I'll Be Your Man" performance...that one I will never concede to. That was the best performance of all. You know I'm right.) We should feel so proud of all the generations of kpop who absolutely slayed this freaking competition with such close results that it's honestly incredible! This is how true competitors and sportsman should act with one another. These 6 groups set the example for healthy competition, friendship and perseverance.

Emily Cortes

Ateez is the youngest group according to debut age. (just answering your question) :) They debuted last out of all the groups.

Selande

I'm sorry to everyone. Apparently I've killed Handsome Sausages. May they reincarnate in peace. lol ;D

Selande

I was awake at 3am to watch and vote for SKZ in the finale. It was such a heart pounding morning!

Star Dust

As a very sad but I think kinda kind?comment: san’s grandpa died around the time the final aired, so I have a theory hongjoong asked the members to wear “fashionably-dressed up” so they could wear black around that time for respect to sannie’s family. It gave me such a clear view of how much they truly care and love each other.

Dachi

Holy crap XDXDXDXD!!!!!

Handsome Sausages

The Real might be Ateez's best song. It's up there with Wonderland for sure. When you get to the proper MV on your album schedule, it's super excellent!

ShawnyJ

I laughed when you said you want to see them perform to the introductory songs. They did :) lol That was Episode 1 in Kingdom hehe
