Kittens are kept as pets in many private households in the 22nd century for the amusement of their owners.

As with other pets, females with a particularly pleasing appearance are selected for this purpose and then have to undergo animal training. This also includes brainwashing, which essentially consists of a prolonged phase of rewarding animal behavior and punishing human behavior. At the end of this phase, the females have not only abandoned their human language and communicate with animal sounds, but they also lose their ability to walk upright and instead move around on four legs. A species-appropriate shortcut to pet training is to socialize females born unfree among pets of the same species from the very beginning of their life in order to never adopt human behavior.

Kittens are often used as cuddly pets by free women, especially those who are unable to marry one of the rare men. The animals are often used as a substitute for the affection of an absent man or their own children and so the members of this breed are stroked and cuddled all day long.

Accordingly, the owners also attach great importance to making their pets look pretty. There is a particularly lucrative industry that equips cat holders with specially designed fur, leather or latex coatings, cat hoods and bushy tails. This basic equipment is often supplemented by all kinds of collars, chains or bells that can be attached to all parts of the kitten's body.
