MagicaCSG Feature: Avoid Blending
Added 2024-07-21 17:54:04 +0000 UTCThis update is already available for prototype users. The download link can be found in the last post.
Avoid Blend is a new blending mode besides Groove Blend.
This blend mode is basically a soft subtraction, followed by a hard union, but it avoids duplication of strokes and computations.
It can be applied to Union and Subtract Boolean operations (the difference is which object is softly subtracted.)
Inflate defines the gap between strokes. You can use only inflate (blend = 0) or only blend (inflate = 0) to see how the parameters affect the appearance.
Chamfer blending can also be applied to this mode.
One usage of this blending mode is Splitting objects (like the curved doors on a car) . You can put the strokes of the door in a subgroup, and then use this mode to add the door to the car with gaps and seams.

Fantastic progress so far. Would be nice to see this tool one day runing "natively" on Linux.

2024-07-29 01:20:41 +0000 UTCSomething seems to be going on when copying and pasting rotation and translation -- if I select a stroke, copy its transform, and then paste it back, it gets offset by quite a large amount On further investigation, I think it's grabbing the parent object's position in World space during a Copy, and then applying that positional offset in Local/shape space to the active stroke.
