Ok so about the tree thing, they did mention it in the episode you guys might have missed it. Basically when they match horoscopes they see if there is any fault in the match and these traditions are such that their is a cure for any faults in the horoscope match (if any), so that the couple can live a happy life. Here the solution to fix that issue was to marry a tree so all the ill luck would be transferred to the tree and not the couple. These are weird traditions that are very rare to find today, but might still exist due to superstitions
