Ancestral Runes (FebRUNEuary Week 1)
Added 2021-02-08 16:26:36 +0000 UTC
Happy Monday, all! Starting on February 1st, I challenged myself to create a new rune every day for FebRUNEuary. Each week I'll share a collection of these runes here, but if you want to stay up to date on the latest (including today's Giant Rune!), you can head over to r/SpectreCreations for new runes every day! :)
The concept overall is still in development, so please feel free to ask any questions! I tried to cover the basics in the lore on the last image, but in short:
- No, these don't require attunement, though the object you transfer it to may, of course.
- Yes, anyone can transfer them and use them. E.g. you don't have to be a Dwarf to use a Dwarvish rune.
- No, they're not meant to be given out like candy. They're generally quite rare and protected by their respective races. DM's should always exercise caution with what items they put in their game when, so I wouldn't suggest just throwing a dozen of these into Ye Olde General Store in some forest village or even a major city.
- Each language has its own distinct mechanical theme. E.g. Dwarvish runes all have a d6 roll to see if you expend the rune, Sylvan runes are shared among multiple creatures, etc.
Come join us over on Discord if you want to help brainstorm or share your own runes!
