The Bad Batch 1x1 Full Reaction!

Xenophobic would be the word to describe the empire I think. While the republic was human populated, by there being more humans than any other species throughout the galaxy IIRC, it wasn't human focused. The Empire is both. So are xenophobic and human supremacist.

The Bad Batch is my favorite SW animated thing. I have not seen every SW animated thing and they all are great in their own way and have must-see moments. I've only seen The Clone Wars, Rebels, Tales of the Jedi & Tales of the Empire (but I don't include those last two in the comparisons 'cause they're closer to character snippets than a "series"). Oh, and "Visions" which I had a hard time getting through for some reason. I like some of those, but didn't love any of them. I don't know why 'cause I usually love seeing slice of life things within a universe. Maybe I'm more into deeper dives now? Not sure. One interesting thing that you touched on here that I only just consciously thought about since "The Acolyte" came out and it's funny to think that it never entered my mind before (probably because I'm not a woman) is that SW has never really seemed limiting to women. Like I've never seen any character assume a female character was less capable because of their gender. I've seen some characters tell others that they can't do that, but usually because they're young or inexperienced (male or female). It took me THIS long to realize that those social constructs didn't seem to come up/evolve in that galaxy...far, far away. It was only when "Andor" came out that someone pointed out that the Empire, sure, is fascist (as we all know) but only made up of humans. So, I would say "racist" but in the sense of the "human race" and not races within humans (although most of the top brass do tend to be white, I'm not sure that's not just the most ruthless rising to the top). Someone like Grand Admiral Thrawn is one of the exceptions. ANYway, got off on a tangent a bit. My point was that because times have changed since the 70s, people that had never really gotten center stage in productions are now (so more female and POC as main characters) and it obviously triggers some people but I never really notice these things on my own until someone complains about it. I just care if the character is cool. If their heart is in the right place or not. Their DNA makeup or whatever never enters into my judgment of a character. Do they have a good heart? Are they smart or capable? These are really the only things that matter to me. In sci-fi/fantasy especially, they're explicitly located NOT HERE. so rules are different. Why do people expect cultural things, especially, to be the same in another galaxy or on another planet? I always brush something different as, "Oh, I guess that's how they do it there." So, you pointing these things out is very interesting because I'm not part of that typically oppressed group of women. Being black, I will probably notice, quicker, more black people in the forefront, but truth be told, not by much. It took me years to realize how much more POC have been mainstreamed. It was one of those things that, when I realized it, made me go "Wow, there's a lot now. That's cool!" Then you start hearing these loud idiots ranting about "going woke" or throwing out "DEI" as a slur. That crap really puts a damper on my enjoyment of things 'cause I just want to bask in the happiness of more people being accepted (and getting closer to that Star Trek ideal that I dreamt about as a kid) and we get all these loud bigots dragging their heels, holding onto old useless prejudices, keeping the rest of us from moving forward. Anyway, sorry for the long post. Didn't expect to say all that when I started. The point was, I guess, to thank you for giving me that female perspective. Because I had a strong relationship with my older sister and mother is probably why I don't notice anything odd about strong female characters being showcased, so it's nice to hear from someone affected by it.

Dee Bradly Baker also tends to do the creature/animal noises. How does that man even sleep?!

Yes! I'm so glad you're enjoying Bad Batch. It certainly is a sequel show to the Clone Wars but goes in a different direction than one would expect since Omega is here but in a good way. They clearly learned from their work on Clone Wars, and Rebels which was done before this, in many ways. Not just visually but story and writing wise as well. Show has a great balance of being serious and making you laugh, usually something Wrecker is doing/said. It's still crazy to think that all of the Bad Batch, minus Omega, is voiced by one person. Dee Bradley Baker, the guy that voiced all the clones in Clone Wars, adult ones anyway. He is crazy talented to do what he did with the show. And the show is great at answering any questions you have, in time.
