BoJack Horseman 6x13 FULL REACTION

BoJack Horseman 6x13 FULL REACTION

Love the passionate and thoughtful conversation for the tough topic of forgiveness and letting someone move on. I 100% agree Sarah Lynn's neglectful mother and predator step-father are getting off way too easy for their part in using and mistreating her. Sucks to be an outcast but at least Bojack knows its his own fault he's in this situation. I like how they didn't tell us what was in the letter. He was dreading and avoiding it all episode. In the end the actual words probably don't sting as much as that lingering anxiety yet at the same time we know what its implied she wrote considering she disconnected her number.

The thing I believe is that people are not automatically entitled to forgiveness. If you apologize simply to get that forgiveness, like what Bojack tried to do with Herb, then you can't be offended if they don't give it. Even if a person truly is remorseful and wants to make amends if the person hurt truly cannot forgive them then that is something that has to accepted. Accept it and move on and try to be better. Diane put it best in the final episode of season 5.

The majority of the world sees people in black and white. It leads those that may be more... predisposed to do bad things believe that they're just pieces of shit that don't deserve to change for the better. That's the main reason I believe that Diane's "there's no such thing as bad guys or good guys" belief holds true. Learn from your mistakes, try to atone, do better. Give people that chance.

Our society has a big problem with giving people the chance to be better even in the long run. Like non-violent criminals getting released from prison and now they have to go into a society that will view them differently and with distrust because of their record. Of course it's different for bojack since he is a known person but we have to give people the ability to be better especially if they put in the work and you can see that yes they are trying to change.

But yeah, definitely agree that we feel slighted that Sarah Lynn's parents didn't get the same inditement, given that they were the ones who should've taken care of Sarah Lynn and they're abuse and negligence were the reason that Sarah Lynn relied so much on Bojack in the first place, and her mom especially hasn't changed for the better. But then again, it's possible that the public already hates Sarah Lynn's mother, since Braxby pitched Bojack a chance to criticize her in their first interview.

I think, for situations like this, it gets messy when there's been permanent damage. Bojack killing Sarah Lynn is the most prominent of this permanent damage, but, like, leading PC on for much of her adult life that she can't get back, hurting Todd's prospects over and over, traumatizing people, these are damages that can't just be fixed with an apology or money or anything like that. With anything, be it the fault of someone, or just a tragedy like a car accident, when there is permanent damage and there's no good answer to fix it, it's hard for people to find peace with it. Bojack has had all this time time find some peace with himself, to confront the problems that can't be fixed on move on and accept them, but for everyone else whose just now finding out that, say, Sarah Lynn is dead because of Bojack and he's still fine, not even getting jail time, he's out and about, it's easy to feel like justice hasn't been served. Even if he was punished worse, the problem is that nothing can fix the permanent damage. The people just have to take the time to process it and move on past it, just like Bojack had to do.

Man... I'd totally be down for a monthly podcast/book club to hear you guys discuss Bonilla-Silva/Judith Butler style stuff.

I'm from the Chicago suburbs, and Sonny's monologue is 100% the vibe. One of the funniest things I've ever seen on t.v. :)
