Season 3's finale of Legend of Korra gets me errytime😭. I cried watchin Korra almost get the air bended outta her lungs the 1st time I saw it& cried again this time (the 100th time) I didn't kno at the time the show was cont. &was sick with worry that she'd actually die. That music during Jinora's ceremony is soo incredibly beautiful I can't help but tearbend all over again. Seeing Korra soo broken& tearing up at the end kills me. Great reaction ladies I'm soo happy to be on this journey with y'all💞

Maybe mako doesn't use lightning as much because it's very destructive when compared to fire. Also what zaheer wanted was a little insane. Every man for themselves means you could just freely kill someone and go about your day. Like you can do whatever you want and that much chaos is dangerous.

Dune

I felt Amon so much when she was telling the president to shut up I was really like where are the political assassins when you need them

Ravon terrell

wow that is fascinating, love this response!!

There are two main ways something flies/floats. One is to create greater pressure under you by causing air to flow over a hump (e.g., airplanes, frisbee) with a flat bottom; the other way is for something in a confined space to be filled with a gas that is less dense (less molecules per space) than surrounding air in the environment (e.g., helium balloons). In the scene at the end of season 2 you can see Aang's clothes are moving as if there is an air current under him lifting him (the same way that people do indoor skydiving now). I agree that the creators probably didn't want an air bubble visual, but they still took the time to animate the clothes moving showing that Aang was on top of a lot of force that allowed him to lift himself in the air. Zaheer was different because clothes don't move upward when he is still in the air. Going into the void allowed his subconscious to rewire his perspective about wind. Bending is closely tied to mentality and perspective, as we see with Toph when she develops metalbending. Once she "sees" the earth in the metal she no longer thought of metal as a separate entity, and that allowed her to control it. In Zaheer's case, the practice of letting go of earthy bonds, likely helped make his mind more aware and accepting of the fact that air is not just external; air is simply nitrogen, oxygen and other trace gases that both surround us and are within us. So I hypothesize that Zaheer is subconciously changing the composition, and therefore density, of the gases around/within him to fly through air. I have other theories of how the other elements fundamentally work if you want to hear.

it's interesting this sense of responsibility for restoring balance in the world is so strong for the avatar that it would prevent them from ever flying bc that still counts as an attachment - but not that strong for someone like zaheer who still made it his life mission to bring his own version of balance to the world and yet that didnt count as some sort of 'being bound' to the earth (based on bbdillon's comment)

So basically one is just more 'detached' than the other? both guru Pathik and Laghima just mentioned letting go of what attached them to the world so by their words there isn't a super clear distinction. By your logic, the thought chakra is 'let go of what ties you to the world, besides any ties to the world itself'? so hypothetically pathik and everyone else who unlocked their thought chakras could all have a strong sense of responsibility for keeping peace and balance in the world that counts as an attachment to the world itself? interestingggg i gotta think about this a bit more

I reckon it was an implied air sphere rather than flight in the way we see Zaheer doing it. Whilst we the audience get the added benefit of seeing the air they bend, in reality the characters in the show don't see shit. For that scene in particular, I imagine the animators thought an air bubble would have detracted from the visuals of the scene and so decided to leave it out, rather than it implying the Avatar state allows flight. Otherwise why would Aang have needed an air bubble during his fight vs Ozai, and why wouldn't Korra have flown during this fight? It's because Zaheer's flight requires complete detachment from earthly desires, something impossible for the Avatar to do.

Zaheer isn’t bound to the earth in any way. As the Avatar, Aang is responsible for keeping peace and balance for entire world, he can’t really let go of that can he?

im curious about the no earthly tether -> flying thing. did aang lowkey fly/float at the end of season 2 when he let go of his earthly attachments (aka katara) to get full control of the avatar state? he was rising up with no air sphere or anything. if he wasnt flying - what's the difference between removing earthly attachments for the thought chakra vs for flying.. why didnt he unlock both at the same time?

Huge congrats to Jinora! First Airbending master in a generation since her father and the youngest in history! At age 11; Aang became a master at 12. With the shaved head she especially looks just like him! Its great seeing her take charge with the Air Nation and giving another great assist to Korra. In season 1 Mako earned extra money shooting lighting in an electric generating company; it teased later in the finale when he avoided losing his bending to Amon by shooting him full of lightning. In season 2 if you look closely he uses it in their final stand against the dark spirits but its not very noticeable. Seems like something the writers save it for the last moments. With him not doing it all season, or in a highlighted way last season; it does come off as a surprise here. I'm pretty sure both Ming Hua and Gazan died after their fights with Bolin and Mako due to electrocution and him burying the place in magma.

Regarding Korra She-Hulk: One thing that always gives me goose bumps about the last battle is that Korra was filled with rage and pain and was going all-out. She was trying to kill Zaheer--not capture or beat him. Korra thought she was giong to die. She thought Zaheer murdered her dad. She was dishing out kill shot after kill shot. Aang at his most intimidating and full power never actually tried to kill the FIre Lord. Both times he got the opportunity, he turned it down and controlled himself. For Korra it was a fight to the death, and she knew she was already dead. The raw aggression and power gives me shivers every time.

Yeah, it specifically showed early on in season 1 that he had a job as a wielder, and all the wielders were using lightning. Also, when Amon in season 1 was approaching Mako to take his bending, he used a finger to shoot lightning at him. That is how he and Korra escaped.

Leenis

The mantra Zaheer kept on repeating is extremely similar to the ideas behind Bhuddist enlightenment, and suggests that the only way to learn how to fly is to detatch yourself from all your worldly desires. For all our main cast, who have family and friends who they care deeply for, this would be impossible. For Korra in particular this could never happen, as like Yangchen said to Aang in Last Airbender, the Avatar's duty is to the world, and so detaching yourself from it would be antithetical to the Avatar's duty. Cried once again watching this episode, that last scene hits different. Both excited and sad we're already on the final season!

Kc

the bittersweet ending stings a little every time also, they showed that mako can bend lightning since early season 1 😅
