So waht tokomi wanted is if he failed to get the grail in this generation, then sakura and rin or their children will fight each other in the next grail war, increasing the chance his descendants completes Heaven's Feel and reach the source.

They believe one way to achieve that is through the 'Grail' (which is actually a ritual Heaven's Feel). Would recommend watching Fate stay night heavens feel (which is three movies of an an alternative fate stay night storyline) after FSN.

Each generation builds upon the previous (this is also why archibold is so proud of linage and disregards the idea of a few generations surpassing long bloodlines), but only one in each generation can inherit the full crest.
