Alfred although values Uhtred as a warrior he has never shown Uhtred the trust and respect he deserves and also fears Uhtred because he's such a great warrior and has so many people who love and are loyal to him.

2021-01-22 05:16:02 +0000 UTCRemember Religion was generally a much bigger part of life and more believed back in these times than they are today which is why you see more choices based off it, and I dont think Alfred wanted to do any of this to Uhtred but if he didnt he would seem week in front of everyone and it would be as if Uhtred was the one who was actually king which is why he is crying in the hall alone he sees Uhtred as his friend but cant show it due to him being king.
