Added 2020-12-27 22:45:56 +0000 UTCA commission that I recently completed but actually started a long while back (I no longer do sketches like the initial rough anymore!)
When the client asked for her room to be all sorts of yellows I didn't think it meant EVERYTHING but her paints/chalks were yellow, haha. So this image ended up glowing a bit more than I had previously planned. She's pretty much forced to live in a yellow room with only yellow accessories, oof.
The character has a power that allows her paintings to become real. She's painting herself a colorful alter ego!

If anyone is wondering, the reason she's forced to live like this is because she's been sickly since she was about 9 years old. The goddess of healing in this world is strongly associated with "saffron yellow," a shade of gold/orange, and the belief is that having her wear and live exclusively in this color will attract the attention (and blessings) of the goddess. When she leaves her bedroom, she even has to wear a yellow veil over her eyes, to both protect her from ill forces and so she sees the color everywhere she goes. This means that the only REAL color in Saff's life come from looking out her bedroom window (this is considered safe, since she's still surrounded by gold) and the colorful art she's allowed to paint (also considered safe, since it comes from her and not the outside world, as long as the paints are ritually cleansed). She covers her walls with art on canvas and poster paper, bringing the beauty of the "real world" into her sanctuary as forcefully as she can.
