These are the original pages that I used to make the comic Free Samples, that appeared in the final volume of Muffintop. When I'm messing around I tend to compress dialogue into very few panels, then go back and add pages to spread it out later. Which is why there is very labored text crammed in most of the blank spaces. I cut it way back for the version that actually got published. There are actually many, many, sketch pages that fill in the gaps in the numbering, but I never got them to a finished state before moving on to other things. Since I never intended to show this to anyone else I didn't need to. The Nina character is a servant of Jo, and also one of the Oni, or goblin, characters. Carol in this incarnation is essentially human. She gets caught up in Jo's perverse quest. That is the basic premise. Different iterations included Thomas, Jess, & other analogs, as well as proto versions of other characters & a few who were totally new.

I left in two versions of a later page so you could see how I spaced out text as I fiddled with the project. The final image is one that a friend sketched and I inked, adding in some filler text. He went by the name JD2000 for many years before leaving the scene. That's why the last image doesn't quite match my art from that time. Anyway, you can get an idea of where Free Samples might have gone if I had continued it. I altered the Carol character enough to make her a different character on some level, but essentially just left Jo as herself & gave her a different name in the new story. At that point in my life I had essentially accepted that I would die alone & wasn't particularly interested in living much longer anyway, so I just kind of did whatever. I go back and forth with those feelings regularly to this day, but at least I get a little money for sharing my perversion.

I've always kind of wanted to clean this up and make it whole, but time is never available for really big projects since I'm not a very fast artist. Free Samples has a sense of narrative closure with the possibility of continuation, so it kind of gave me that sense of relief you get after completing something.
