Such a beautiful movie, and another great reaction. Even leaving aside the technical achievement of filming to look like it's one take (which is a huge one), they didn't make it easy for themselves. The shot that gave me particular chills was when they were both walking along the bottom of the bomb crater full of water, and the camera drifts along the surface of the water following them. So think about that for a second - where was the camera operator? The water doesn't move... so how did they get the camera from one side of that massive crater to the other across the water without disturbing it? (The theory I had when I watched it turned out to be right - they transferred the camera on to a wire and pulled it across, then the camera operator picked it up again and kept filming on the other side). The other bit that blew me completely away was the same thing you noticed - when Blake gets stabbed, and soon after, while we stay on him, he turns completely pale. Something seemingly so simple, but absolutely stunning.

2023-07-28 11:57:06 +0000 UTCFor World War I movies, I really liked "The Trench" (1999). It's low budget but reminds me of a 90s style "TV move". Which Isn't a bad thing to me. It also focuses on the more stressful part of war which is the anticipation and the waiting.

But the way they cleverly hid the cuts is truly an achievement in cinema. So much so, the film won 3 academy awards. Including Best cinematography, Best special effects, and best music. It was also nominated for Best picture and Best Director. Although it didn’t win those. I believe there several BTS documentaries on YouTube on how they filmed the movie if you’re interested. But all the technical aspects mean very little if the story wasn’t good. Fortunately, the story was just as strong as the technical aspects. Great movie all around. I’m glad you enjoyed it Dasha.
