TV series suggestions?

I'd love to gather your suggestions for any TV series you'd be interested in watching together!
I plan to put up a poll in a few days with some narrowed down options for which series we'll watch first.
for the first show we watch together, I'm gravitating towards the idea of shows that are just 1-2 seasons, or have seasons that work as a standalone [i.e. Fargo, Arcane, True Detective, Band of Brothers, etc] but would love to get an idea of your interests!
the poll will go up in a few days!

After Pacific I thing you should try "From Earth to the Moon" HBP Miniseries. Tom Hanks produced with Ron Howard and Bryan Glazer. The team that did the Apollo 13 movie. It is about all the Apollo Missions and has an incredible cast.

David Horn

Bosom Buddies is a great show! It is a 2-season, 30-minute/per-episode comedy, starring Tom Hanks, BABY TOM HANKS!!!

fire12wife

You already got mine.... :P

DragonWolf Entertainment

Marc, good anecdote

Clay F

GoT and Vikings are awesome.

Clay F

"Freaks and Geeks" is such a nostalgic show, as a french Canadian it was one of the first show I watch in english and could understand (around 12yo) after that I never watch anything in french when it was mean to be in english . And the cast is legendary

Marc T

Band of Brothers for sure! , I'll be a harsh but the Office or any other sitcom are bad it my opinion don't get mad.

Marc T

The Office (US)

Greg

Haunting of Hill House (1 season) is amazing in case you haven't seen it (and Midnight Mass and Bly Manor from the same director too). Dark (3 seasons) was already mentioned, and should be seen in the original German since the dubbed version is apparently shit (I'm German so I didn't try it). I also love The Good Place (4 seasons, but each episode is like 20 min, so really it should count as 2 ๐Ÿ˜). A smart sitcom that stays great till the end. (Avoid spoilers!) Too long, but still great: Buffy, The Expanse, Battlestar Galactica (2003), Avatar, The Boys

Lars Geuer

Arrested development ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Rob

This right here is the answer.

Aron

This would be an Excellent Intro into the Star Trek Universe! "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" (2022) "To boldly go where no one has gone before"

Randolph Tirazona

I know it's been done by a hundred other reactors but I'd gladly watch "Firefly" 100 more times. It's short and sweet and all of the characters are incredibly lovable. Plus the movie "Serenity" makes for a great season finale since the show was so sadly cut short. I think it's a good idea to stick to tv shows with only 1-2 seasons or a short mini-series. Although there are plenty of great shows that have gone on for many seasons, getting locked into one particular show for too long gets old after awhile. I will always be in favor of more variety. Looking forward to seeing the poll!

Game of Thrones, Vikings or Fringe would be awesome ๐Ÿ˜„

IMSO

The Expanse is an awesome newer sci-fi series. Much better than Firefly imo. A positive about Firefly is only 14 episodes.

Clay F

The Pacific, Jack Ryan, Ted Lasso, Cobra Kai

Victor

Reacher Season 1 is amazingly good. Season 2 is a bit meh, but Season 1 is well worth watching.

Chris Gronau

Band of Brothers for sure should be the first on the list, and if you liked that I would suggest The Pacific, and Generation Kill.

Ronny Boss

Always tops every list when people ask about shows that "ended too soon" or "deserved more seasons". It's a beloved cult classic that gave a bunch of kids their start in the business. Kids like 17 year old Seth Rogan, 19 year old Jason Segel and 20 year old James Franco.

dave

It's hard not to like Glow. A good series.

Clay F

โ€œBand of Brothersโ€ [Spielberg/Tom Hanks] (10 episodes) (my No. 1 miniseries all time). [RT=97%, IMDb=9.4]. Don't see many shows with a 9+ IMDb average rating by users. โ€œTrue Detectiveโ€ S1 (2014) (8 episodes) โ€œChernobylโ€ (2019) (5 episodes) "Freaks and Geeks" (1999-2000) (1 season) โ€œGodlessโ€ (2017) western miniseries (7 episodes). IMDb=8.2. Nominated for 13 Emmys including Outstanding Limited Series. Won 3 Emmys including Jeff Daniels (who is stunning). โ€œAndorโ€ (2022) (1-season, 12 episodes) (IMDb 8.4, RT 96%) (8 Emmyยฎ nominations including Outstanding Drama Series) [prequel to Rogue One (2016) and A New Hope (1977)] -- my favorite Star Wars series even more than The Mandalorian that I like.

Clay F

I love FREAKS AND GEEKS (1999-2000, 1 season). RT 100%. IMDb 8.8 --highly recommend, don't see many reactions to it

Clay F

Yes, Band of Brothers, absolutely. A natural progression to Saving Private Ryan.

Clay F

A big +1 for CHERNOBYL (2019) (5 episodes). IMDb 9.3 - Emmy Outstanding Limited Series. Based on true story. Awesome miniseries.

Clay F

Mrs. Davis (Peacock) Glow (Netflix) the first one made me think of the second one, they share Betty Gilpin, always clutch

Bryan

A big +1 for "True Detective" S1 (8 episodes) (2014) (Woody Harrelson, Matthew Mcconaughey).

Clay F

throwing support behind Firefly, clutch show

Bryan

Valid point, but I would rather have Band of Brothers (the best miniseries of all time) than Firefly, which is dated and already has "a hundred million other reactions on YT."

Clay F

Freaks and Geeks

dave

+1 for Dexter but a long series.

Clay F

Here to second Ted Lasso

Bryan

I don't really watch many TV reactions, but I would lean more toward voting for titles that aren't too long, so they don't clutter up the channel, as well as ones that don't already have a hundred million other reactions on YT. I've seen enough people cover Band of Brothers for three lifetimes.

Shawn Goforth

Firefly and Dexter

Cameron Kerby

True Detective season 1. That to me, is THE best season of television Iโ€™ve ever scene.

Eric J Watkins

Firefly

Uncle Phoenix

I know it is more than 1 season, but many of them are only 30 minute episodes. I think the original The Twilight Zone. They are stand alone episodes, and can be seen in any order.

John Shepard

sometimes I rate the movies on Letterboxd, but usually I leave it blank - if I somehow gave La La Land zero stars, that is a terrible mistake and does not accurately reflect my opinion of it at all ๐Ÿคฃ I *loved* La La Land! off the top of my head, I'd say it deserves at least 4.5 stars! also I feel like I should note that I watched Drive in high school and have almost no memory of what happened in that movie ๐Ÿคฃ

camilla

I wish I'd seen your reaction to "The Queen's Gambit". I was blown away by that drama when it debuted on Netflix. You watched some other interesting movies, too - "The Florida Project" and Gosling in "Drive", which relied so much on ambiance rather than dialogue. But you gave zero stars to "La La Land" - did it not appeal to you at all? I wish Letterboxd supported TV series. It's pretty handy knowing which films you've already watched, before we make suggestions.

ButtercupsTrueLove

EDIT: Other people can have an opinion. It's not my channel so maybe a re-watch can work. I dunno, Alex - I recently watched another reaction channel that was re-watching one of their favorite movies and it wasn't the same. They knew in advance when something was about to happen and would say, "I love this scene!" There's only ONE first time reaction.

ButtercupsTrueLove

Band of Brothers (1 ten-episode season and a companion documentary which is an oversized 11th episode of sorts). Ted Lasso (3 seasons - 34 total episodes)

Ian Forbes

Band of Brothers Chernobyl The Office Firefly True Detective It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Severance 3 Body Problem

JB

Band of Brothers, absolutely

Todd Preble

Firefly is one of my favorite sci-fi series. Great show that only ran for one season, before some genius TV exec decided to cancel it

Ray Wood

Going the miniseries route is usually a good bet. A limited number of completed episodes and public opinion is already established. As previously noted, Chernobyl and Band of Brothers are both great choices. I've not seen any reactions to 1883. It's one of my favorites and my wife loved it. Stunning cinematography. And although it's a Yellowstone prequel, it stands on its own.

Crimson Ace

One Piece Live Action. Only 1 season so far 2nd season starts this year I think.

Chris Illsley

I suggested British Sci-Fi Comedy Red Dwarf, but the comment was removed for some reason.

Lee Pitman

Firefly!

The Dingo

Dark True detective season 1 Both are incredible and wonโ€™t take you too long to get through

Travis Hybiak

I can't not suggest Arcane especially since it's just finished.

Wreckingballryan

I understand, although I also believe that a Squid Game rewatch could work too, unless you've already watched it recently.

Alex Tan

Firefly (2002; SciFi/Western (!); 1 Season, 14 Episodes + Final movie; IMDB: 8.9) Band of Brothers (2001; War; 1 S, 10 E; IMDB: 9.4) The Expanse (2015-2022; SciFi; 6 S, 62 E: IMDB: 8.5)

Phil Stubblefield

sadly, I've seen both... though a stranger things rewatch could be fun to prep for season 5!

camilla

I've seen Queen's Gambit but not Chernobyl - and I've been meaning to watch that one!

camilla

Please consider "The Queen's Gambit" or "Chernobyl" if you haven't seen them yet. Both are only one season.

Steve Holton

Great choice ๐ŸคŒ

Lee Pitman
