From what I've noticed, the pacing of Overlord seasons follow a pattern more or less. First episode is lax, second episode builds a bit, third episode gets the excitement going, fourth episode is a climax in action that caries over a bit into episode five which rounds things out. Then it repeats for 6 through 10 with less of a lax start than the first half. Then 11, 12 and 13 are always grand and eventful episodes that were setup by the story telling of 1 through 5 and 6 through 10.

Your penchant for picking favorite dudes, and character development makes me think you'd Like the Seven Deadly Sins anime. Author was bad at action, so he made a story where 1 minute is fighting and the other 22 minutes is character development.
Action's bad and they ran out of money in season 4, but they grow so much as people.
