The other day a former colleague told me to live my best life, and I suppose that's what I'm striving for. I go to the pool, I hang out with friends, I hit up a fuck buddy, I indulge in my not-favorite habit of stuffing food in my face while I watch dumb shit on YouTube. This weekend it is gray in Pittsburgh and I've been unmotivated to do much. Writing, as you know, is solidly on the back burner, where it simply must go from time to time.
A few touch-ups and then I'm finished with this painting I've been working on for the better part of this past year, on and off. I don't know what to think of it, but I still like looking at it. I'm excited to do some collaging once it's done.
I trimmed the tops of my hedges and tried to leave untouched the flowery hibiscus that's poking out from inside them. My new day job is a lot to learn, and I'm still adjusting to a schedule that leaves me falling asleep on my bus ride home, most days. But I'm also happier and steadier than I've been in a while.
It really does feel like our world is crumbling, and I get so scared. This world is succumbing to fascism and there's a hopelessness to things that has maybe always been there, but is now pronounced.
I practice letting go of the things I can't influence. I enjoy life and take delight in it even when it's fraught.
