2025-04-15 06:57:39 +0000 UTCFor some reason I was obsessed with Peter Pan when I was little and I loved Hook as a kid, but I definitely appreciate it way more as an adult! It's has such depth and timeless themes. It has a gravitas and melancholy to it while also remaining silly and playful. The script and the score are just gorgeous! Even though I'm not a parent, I love it when media made for children is also made with the parents in mind. In a lot of ways this movie is almost MORE for the parents than the kids because, at its core, it's a movie about parenthood. Really enjoyed watching this one with you guys. Would love to see you react to the 2003 version of Peter Pan at some point. It's not nearly as praiseworthy as this one, but it features Lucius Malfoy as Mr. Darling/Hook!

2025-04-14 20:17:56 +0000 UTCThis film is a fantastical masterpiece. So nostalgic, and so quotable. Bang-a-rang!! You’re doing it Peter! Good Form, or Bad Form! Find your happy thoughts! I will always tear up every time I watch Pockets smoosh Peter’s face and say “oh there you are Peter”. 🥹 The cast is amazing! There’s no other Captain Hook, Peter Pan, Tink, Smee, and on and on. This movie will make you teary eyed with laughter and sad moments. Oh and the score throughout…Whimsical!!

But my favorite fact is that the actors who play Smee & Hook secretly decided together to portray their roles as if they were "two old queens," as they both interpreted Barrie writing them as a gay couple. Spielberg found out & wasn't happy about it because he worried about it being "a kid's movie." They did it anyway & agreed it added something additional to the performance & I agree!
