Beach fun prototype WIP

Figured I might as well post this since it was something that I was working on, though I'm not sure if it'll ever be completed.

This was a work-in-progress of a scene I wanted to do where Vanessa was posed in the water with a splash coming in from the left-hand side of the screen (though that's not visible in this render since I never got around to modeling it). I wanted to try and play around with some lighting where the majority of the light was coming in from behind rather than the front to try and emulate a more late-day experience (rather than midday where the sky is blue and the sun is high up).

Unfortunately, I couldn't quite figure out the water in such a way that I was actually happy with it. It seems like rendering "infinite" oceans is rather difficult in 3D- most of the time you land up with a horizon that's too low or too sharp (as it is in this picture), and there's some crazy technical issues with trying to get a non-repeating wave pattern to render in a reasonable amount of memory.

I kinda need to get back to work on my character rig and indoor scene (so I can start producing some stuff I can actually call "finished"), but rather than throwing this out I figured I'd post what I had as a WIP render instead.

I'll very likely land up reusing this pose in the future- it might be something I can adapt to an indoor scene where one character is standing outside the pool and another is doing the splashing from within the pool... that'd probably make more sense from a scene composition standpoint as well... Food for future thought, I suppose.

*coughs*... underinflated beachball, or underinflated beachballs?... >,>

I like the irony of the under-inflated beach ball.
