I've been thinking about this one since I listened to it. The subversion in this audio of love of the divine into the obsession of a beloved is at once repulsive and delectable. The way you touch on the madness, mania, and loss of control that can border intense desire (at 1:14, 4:36, 7:02, 8:30, 9:05, 16:36)... the most visceral, worst kind of chills. Good job capturing the mix of terror and lust one can experience as a woman with a certain type of man. Caught the Rumi reference this time; is there a reference to Thoreau's poem "Love" at 2:56 I detect? Is 27:33 a reference to Tennyson? The whisper at 35:58, 35:59... I loved this. You're onto something with the layered conceits, Deepdark. This whole episode makes me crave an Eros and Psyche retelling, where the speaker visits the listener at night and she can't open her eyes or something terrible will happen. PS - is there a sly wink at the blurring of boundaries in liminal parasocial spaces? Because that thought made me chuckle.
