Unfortunately in hindsight Lover is not the happy loved up album we believed it to be, that was Rep. Lover was the beginning of the end for Joe and Taylor. I honestly believe if it wasn't for the pandemic the would have broken up sometime in 2020.

Lover is definitely a vibe with foundational TS canon events (The Archer, False God, Lover, Cornelia Street, 1000 Cuts, Daylight, etc.) It’s not perfect front to back but it is something I do get in the mood for, and I love it in those moments. It’s exactly like Midnights - you’re not always there, but when you are it just HITS. (Except for Maroon. It’s always time for Maroon.)

Soon You’ll Get Better is an immediate skip for me. I listened today with you and cried the whole time. You are so right, cancer is the worst thing to watch someone you love go through. Staying positive is so hard. You just keep thinking they have to be okay because we need her here. Not being able to stop it from happening and protecting your spouse from that pain is the hardest thing I’ve ever been through.

So they treat their love like the religion “got the wine, make confession, beg for forgiveness” “The altar is my hips” So they’ll put each other and their love on the pedestal as the God they worship even though they know it’s a false God. Soon You'll Get Better is a song that I listen to only if Im trying to get a good cry lol. My mom passed when I was 8 (18 years ago), so it hits WAY too close to home.

Then there's the ones which are serious subjects addressed with humor. I think many people just can't figure how to switch emotional gears fast enough. The whiplash pisses them off.

I know a lot of people will ask for City of Lover, but I'd like to also suggest Taylor's Tiny Desk Concert. Her performance of Death By a Thousand Cuts on there is especially good, and I like the song more acoustically vs. on the album. I also love the BBC performance of London Boy. I don't care what anyone says, that song is such camp and I looooove it, lol.

Coming off of an album like reputation filled ACTUALLY with Love songs… Lover is full of anxiety, fear of loss, fear of not being enough, her thoughts about love, and also political undertones. Is she in my top 3 albums? No but I have such a special place in my heart for Lover 💕

The word 'my' is repeated in each, but where in Lover it's like her breath is taken away by her lover, in DBATC she names all of the 'mys' that have been affected by losing him.

One big reason why lover is so slammed was the way it was marketed and released. The single choices were TERRIBLE. Me! was the only single we had for soooo long lol. This and SuperMarket Flowers by Ed Sheeran are such great representations of what it’s like to lose a parent. I’m finally able to listen to it all the way through which is a big step. The tremble in her voice will never not make me cry. 🫶🏻

My perception and opinions of songs change drastically when I see live performances of them or any visuals associated to songs and that's really helped with me loving lover! if you don't know there is a bonus lover track called 'to all the girls you loved before' this was actually leaked but taylor decided to put it on streaming a couple of years later. There is another leaked song called 'need' that's related to lover as well (Which i love).

I felt the same way the first time I heard it… it has sadly gotten on my over played list (by others) so I don’t listen to it willingly much, but it is still a very well written song and very good! :) Also amazing that you picked up the All too well lyric similarity on your first listen!
