Red was her messy breakup album. 1989 was supposed to be her New York Girl Boss of the Girl Squad album. She wasn't supposed to be getting her heart broken all over again. A lot of that devastation was written but hidden in the vault. The story is richer & more complex without the PR meddling with the truth.

Taylor was pissed & hurt, but also fascinated and amused by the crazy serial dater persona the media made her out to be. They were painting her as this psycho seductress destroying man after man for the breakup songs. She found the character wildly compelling. She thought, "y'know... that'd be a really fun character to write about." She does make fun of herself, but it was the media she left looking stupid.

But now Jack Antonoff is married to Margaret Qualley. And honestly, 1989 taylor's version was released perfectly on time in 2023, the same time Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley was married, and it caused a lot of chaos online because during their rehearsal dinner before their wedding, their location was leaked and THOUSANDS of swifties camped outside for taylor and was blocking the road, cops had to show up and kick everyone out of the rehearsal dinner. But other than that, definitely check out Margaret Qualley and Demi Moore's movie "The Substance" if you haven't already

2025-04-28 14:48:58 +0000 UTCExcellent video as always! First, I want to say that 1989 is my favorite album by far; it's simply perfect and worthy of being called "The Pop Bible". However, I must say that TV sadly doesn't do justice to this 2014 masterpiece, and I suggest listening to the original version with the original producers, as it's a completely different (and much better!) experience. One of the greatest examples of this is "Style" and "I Wish You Would." They're simply not the same. I hope you continue to give this incredible album more chances and that it begins to grow on you over time. I'm eagerly awaiting the reaction to the Vault Tracks and the tour!

You analysed all of the songs quite well and once you watch the Grammy musuem session and 1989 tour video you'll get more context watching Taylor explain the concept and production. Love how attached you've become to Taylor's music and can appreciate and understand it from a better perspective now.

You NEED to react to her Grammy museum performances of that song, as well as Wildest Dreams and a couple others. She gives a bunch of background info about how she came up with the idea for Blank Space and she’s just so funny and it’s such a good performance.

The bridge in out of the woods isn’t actually a metaphor (well it can be) Harry really did get in an accident in a snow mobile with Taylor and had to get stitches 😂 they also had paper airplane necklaces together so it mentions this too. Just for the vault songs keep in mind that they officially finally broke up on a boat and she wore a blue dress (it won’t make sense to you now but it will once you listen to the vault 😂) I myself don’t quite know all the details of the feud between Taylor and katy but I believe it was about katy stealing Taylor’s dancers right under her and that pissed off taylor. There is so much content for 1989 more so than any of her other albums, I can’t wait for you to see it all! The music videos, the live performances, her tour! And of course the vault tracks which I gotta say it’s the best vault we have for a re-record it’s top tier

HERE WE GO BTW this album is about Harry Styles and just so you know, all the car crashing lyrics are metaphors but also literal cause Harry was a horrible driver 😂😂 Taylor and Katy were beefing for quite a while (it was such a big fued on the interent during that time) but they made up during the lover era and now are friends again. So all is good lol Another detail that I think you should remember is that they broke up on a boat and Taylor was wearing a blue dress. If you want, look up "Taylor blue dress boat" and that moment was right after she broke up with Harry, the picture looks so sinister lol
