Chapter 476

The opportunity to delve into Brightstone's dungeons was something Ajax would very much like to do but it wasn’t something he was in a position to take advantage of, at least not just yet. It took a bit to convince himself that slowing his leveling wouldn’t be the right choice just to get a few more dungeon floors out of Brightstone but after talking it over with Lexi they agreed it wouldn’t be the smart move for him. It would however be a good choice for her, she could slow down her leveling to ensure she gained as many stat points as possible while also readying herself for reaching her own evolution quickly.

“Are you sure you want to wait?” Ajax asked Lexi when she decided she didn’t want to follow his footsteps and use potions to raise her own stats.

“I’ve still got to get used to casting with the stats I've gained already.” Lexi with a small shake of her head. “I don’t get how you adapt so quickly to the increased stats.”

“It’s probably because of how I fight.” Ajax said. “I’m always pushing my body beyond what my physical stats should be capable of with [Mana Syphon] and my spells are a lot weaker than a mage’s with the same stats would be, though I do tend to go through my mana at about the same speed, I just use more spells at once.”

Ajax understood why Lexi was having a hard time getting used to her stats. Her physical stats increased a lot more than he did during the delving spree, at least as a percentage. While the increase happened over more than half a year it was still a lot of physical stats and he could still see her almost pulling some of the heavier doors off their hinges when she wasn’t paying attention to her increased Strength. Years of muscle memory with much lower strength slowly adapting to the new reality.

Lexi's magical stats had increased a lot less comparatively but with a Domain and Vibration mana there was a lot she had to work on before she was ready for another sizable increase in her stats.

“How long do you think it’ll be before your grandfather comes by to ask you about Domains?” Ajax asked as they both prepared for their delve.

“He’s still busy trying to work on spells with Vibration mana.” Lexi answered. “Intent has a lot to do with a spell especially when he is trying to make new ones so I think he’ll spend a few months on that. But we can expect him to come around after he grabs all the low hanging fruit there.”

That made sense. As unusual as it might seem right now Lexi was the premier Domain specialist in Gryndor, being the only mage to have a Domain guaranteed her that position and Ajax wouldn’t be surprised if a few of the mages in the royal squads had already started making inquiries in the subject.

“How about you, have you practiced at all with your staff?” Lexi asked, a bit of worry filling her voice.

Ajax had to suppress a small grimace at the question. “I tried it a few times but not with anything close to how much mana I’ll be wielding in the dungeon.” Ajax answered.

“How much were you using?” Lexi asked, curious.

“About three to five thousand per cast.” Ajax answered.

“Only that much?” Lexi exclaimed.

Three to five thousand mana in a single cast was an enormous amount of mana. Even as mages became stronger and spells became a lot more powerful a lot of that was down to how efficient they became with their mana. Sure the amount of mana in a single also increased as a mage increased in level but while the mana used increased linearly the output of the spells increased exponentially. Three to five thousand mana was the amount a mage champion would use for one of their bigger spells.

At the same time that amount of mana was nowhere close to what Ajax would be using in the dungeon. He would be getting the mana of ten people, of which Lexi Anna and Xavier were three of them and their stats were slightly inflated compared to what they should be. More than that he would also be getting a third of all their Stamina in mana as well, for a group focused on Endurance that would be a sizable Stamina pool as well. Ajax would be closing in on thirty thousand mana in a single cast.

“It’s not easy to practice with, and it’s not like we had a lot of time.” Ajax knew his excuse wasn’t the sturdiest but the only time he had to practice with the staff had been on their journey from Lessis to the capital. The only people who were there to help him were the royal squads who were also on guard so they would only donate a small amount of their resources. “I will say that using someone else’s mana is a lot more inefficient. I think I’m about three times as wasteful as I am when using my own mana.”

“We’ll definitely have to practice a lot more with the staff.” Lexi nodded as she looked towards the ring that Housed the massive ettin caster weapon. “It’s currently our House’s last resort defense and there is a lot we need to learn about it. Does the efficiency increase if you add your own mana to the mix?”

“I haven’t tried that yet.” Ajax answered. “So far I’ve only tried casting with other people’s mana.”

“In that case at least stick with a more concentrated element for your opening spell.” Lexi said as she looked towards Ajax. “Even if you only get one third the efficiency that will still add up to about ten thousand effective mana, the staff might spare your mana channels but that will cost you in control.”

“So no Fire.” Ajax joked with a smile.

“Definitely no Fire.” Lexi smiled back. “Ice, Earth, Lightning are probably your best bet. It’ll also depend on what you are fighting.”

Ajax had to agree, of his Mana affinities Ice Earth and Lightning were probably the best in terms of an opening attack. Metal, Light and Shadow spells simply wouldn’t do as much damage, Holy was out of the running unless the floor boss had Curse mana and he had no confidence in properly aiming ten thousand mana Void strike, he would for sure miss the point of impact. Fire, Wind, Water and Magma on the other hand were a danger to the people with him, all four of the elements were known for having wide area of effects at high mana usages and with lowered control a group of people at level fifty that had just been drained of their Mana and Stamina would be sitting ducks.Vibration Mana was even more out of the question than any other, with that much mana powering it Ajax wouldn’t be sure if even the squad present would be safe should any of them be in the general direction of the spell backed by a Legendary Mana affinity. The one option Ajax was still considering however was Life Mana.

Unlike all the others using all that mana in a single Life Mana creation would not only be the most likely to waste as little mana as possible in terms of his lack of control due to how mana intensive the affinity innately was but by creating a construct it would be something that he could rely on for help for a good portion of the fight instead of being simply an opening attack.

“Good luck.” The words were echoed by everyone who saw Ajax and Lexi off from the Manashaper manor. Despite Ajax being the one fighting the wishes were all aimed towards Lexi and having a Floor Boss whose boon would best fit her.

“Good we’re all here.” the squad captain said as he took everyone in before he they all piled inside two carriages and headed for the dungeon.

As they traveled towards the dungeon Ajax couldn’t help but flex his right arm open and closed. The loss of his gauntlet was still not something he had grown accustomed to but he was sure the weapons he had from the royal family would hold up well before his commissions on affinity dedicated weapons were completed.

It also wasn’t just Ajax who was uncomfortable in their gear. Lexi, Anna and Xavier were all a little stiff as they adjusted to the exclusively defensive armor they were wearing, it was meant to help them endure any extremely wide area of effect attack the Floor Boss might have without the squad having to step in as that would invalidate the Achievement.

Their group got a few odd looks as they entered the dungeon, the guards at the entrance however did nothing but straighten their back and salute the royal squad the moment the group approached before waving them in.

The climb up through the floors was extremely uneventful. The group straight up headed towards the first arch they could find on each floor with Ajax using the arch guardians as practice for his new weapons while also taking the corpses. There was no point in hiding his loot boon as everyone who was here was well aware of it seeing as they hoped to get a variation of it.

“Well, you guys finally get to do something.” Xavier joked with the squad as soon as they reached the sixteenth floor of the dungeon where they would challenge the floor boss. “I hope the floor boss isn’t an ent.” The jungle they were in could house all sorts of creatures but an ent wasn’t out of the question. That hardly mattered however as a floor boss wasn’t even always linked to the floor it spawned on.

Comments

I thought, but has been since the last book that I reread the whole story, the old headmaster mentioned that the system makes exceptions for dungeon boss. Something about it being a requirement to advance in the dungeon.

You don't need any abuse the trigger the Bullying punishment after you've already earned the retribution, only to kill monsters less than 90% of your level, which he has been repeatedly doing

Read Isekai

the bullying was in the presence of other students who could have managed it without his interference. He stepped in as a safe guard. To this chapter I haven't read any real abuse. Wasting the mini-boss at the arch is a given to progress. That hardly counts as bullying. Not really. If he gets the skill to port to his last floor...

Silver Beard

There was that achievement that awarded his Inspector's Eye that was worth negative 20 levels of advanced xp for beating bosses above his level. He should be at the cusp of that now. +200% going forward... his level should go through the roof quickly... as he works though all his thresholds. Two/year... about to be 4-5/year. Curios timing... considering

Silver Beard

No, you get it for every 'instance' it seems that a group of monsters only count as a single instance, so there is likely a certain minimum time gap required between instances. - "Progress counted by number of incidents regardless of the number of infractions per incident. Punishment triggered after one hundred incidents for the first time after receiving Retribution and every ten after." (Chapter 177) Its was said for a pack of monsters so long as one in the pack if more than 90% of his level then it wouldn't count. (Doesn't apply when your only killing 1 monster, and that monster is less than 90% of your level) - "Not as such. You are to refrain from confronting only creatures lower level than you. As long as somewhere in the pack of creatures you are facing there is at least one that fits the requirements, your punishments will not activate." (Book 1 - page 320) Also killing a 'large' pack of monsters might not count as an instance, however he is only killing mini-bosses so that doesn't apply in this instance - "Observation group size affects the level range of enemies that do not trigger then punishment. When fighting at least ten enemies with a level 80%-90% of your level, punishment does not go in effect and incident doesn’t count. When fighting at least thirty enemies with a level 70%-80% of your level, punishment does not go in effect and incident doesn’t count." (Chapter 177) We know that single monsters do count because of ajax's initial experiments with learning to heal, he killed many single monsters that contributed to the count. - "he was also kicking himself for practicing his healing skills on low level animals and killing them after as surely those counted for a lot of the incidents that lead to him triggering the first punishment, that and the snakes quest. " (chapter 177) We also know he is careful around his bees for this reason And he has been killing mini-bosses that are a lower level to him at an alarming rate, and you only need 10 instances to rank up an intermediate step between bullying punishments Furthermore it's not possible for bullying to down a step without achieving [Against Overwhelming Odds] which he has not done. He did rank it up an intermediate step just before chapter 177 though

Read Isekai

Honestly like the build up and afterwards of a fight than the actual fight most the time. Some authors make the fights really interesting and fresh though. Not saying fights are bad or anything, just i'm jaded and have read 1,000s of them.

ShadeByTheSea

He doesn't get bully for killing things at or above his level. He also only gets free stats for floors at or above his level. So I don't think he's been killing lower level bosses too much. I mean the gold statue was, but you only get bully for killing a lot of lower level creatures, not 1 or two. Plus i think his bully has gone down a step since he got it.

ShadeByTheSea

Maybe he plan on solo clearing floor level 121 of his own dungeon soon? That would allow him to get rid of the punishment...

Read Isekai

Isn't ajax going to trigger an intermediate step of [Bullying] soon? I'm pretty sure in the past 4 dungeons, including this one he's triggered at-least 8 separate instances if not more... I'm pretty sure this is the capital dungeon, though it does somewhat depend on how much time must pass between instances. But it seems like he's going to kill the bosses of floors level 30, 35, 40, 45 all of which are less than 90% his level.... and he did the same in the empires capital so that's 8 instances, he might not have done it in the empires second dungeon because he was being observed, but the last sylvanthl dungeon he did it 1-2 times I'm pretty sure he should be triggering it this dungeon run at this pace...

Read Isekai

Very possibly. But the way they've been condensing episodes, we might get at least part way into Jinwoo's fight with Beru. 🤯

part 2 is particularly bloody... where the healer gets dead, the Japanese were planning to pull out on purpose, but the uber ant kills them anyway, and Jinwoo uses is shadow trade at the last minute to save the day. Part 3 will be worth watching... part 2 is just fodder.

Silver Beard

It's an opportunity that Ajax will have to sieze. Flutter's Mom is watching her son; also from ch461... making sure he doesn't pre-empt the process. Ajax will have to enter to Wild Lands to become available. Only then will they have a chance meeting to broker a bond.

Silver Beard

Next episode is part 2 of the Jeju island raid. 🤩🤩🤩

I thought it was established that the BOONS awarded are based on different Floor Boss types? Besides, SpiritFire might get picked up by Ajax analyzing the results of a Mana Siphon attack on it...🤔

Solo Leveling- I already read most of the books. So I'm ambivalent about the anime. Next chaper is just another build up anyway... 24 is the crown. Everything else is just noise. Making a shadow of the healer to save a team mate will be big.

Silver Beard

The Trait can only be earned once... so even if a Kitsune appears there's no chance Ajax will pick up it's trait. He can't take out floor bosses either- only mini-bosses; until he clears a x3 boss which isn't going to happen anytime soon... literally or in reality.

Silver Beard

Probably next delve...once they're more comfortable with trying a brand new process.

👍👍

TftC. Always forget that build up is necessary. It’s a flaw in my dungeon mastering for DnD as well. Looking forward to the fight in a few days.

Darien Shields

I hope he gets a twin tailed vixen again.

Teej

He could be hiding that particular skill from some of the other members of the party still

Kyle

TFTC!🐶 Gah! Cliffhanger. 🙄 An Ettin would be best, to confirm that Ettin Floor Bosses confer the Boon of taking out of the dungeon your drops. However, I'm still hoping for another Kitsune, so that Ajax has a chance to learn SpirtFire. 😈. That would be awesome if Siphon gives him enough information to learn the Legendary Skill. And Kitsune are casters, so the mages in this delve party would be plenty satisfied with a boost to magic. And Ajax would finally get 6 Legendary skills...I wonder what kind of reward he'd get? 🤩😍 Have to wait til Friday to find out the encounter. Of course, everyone is also probably waiting for this Friday's Solo Leveling. 😂🤣

I think dropping the damaged glove potentially gives the storyline a cheeky little opportunity to re introduce the Dragon (Shifter’s mum) again, see chapter 461 ....... and maybe an avenue to a mutual bond with a ascended being? Or at least a chance to open a diplomatic dialogue

Danny

TFTC

Some Guy

I thought he was holding onto his gauntlet for this last delve before giving it up? Suppose it makes sense- most of his biggest attacks, he's already destroyed the protection it might have provided, but not all.

Silver Beard

Makes me wonder about all future delves- price tag of any delve he participates in. To date it's all been speculation on his participation with craft or boosting with his ability to choose favorable floors would garner a high fee. Looking forward to that actually happening, enriching his Duchy to further his grand plans, alchemy, etc.

Silver Beard

I know the boosters are there to protect the delve; but I almost expected them to treat it as the Sythanyl(?)'s did... and make use the Ajax floor identification to harvest useful stuff from floors after the bulk of the hopefuls exit. I don't see that ever getting old or unprofitable to take advantage of, especially at the level they are delving. Esp since Ajax is going to be preoccupied after this delve for a least a month or six.
