Chapter 396
Added 2024-09-07 04:32:39 +0000 UTCAjax was very impressed with Xavier’s new style. From what little he had shared about his breakthrough it seems that besides the usual five skill types that were used as the basis for this style, he had also added the Uncommon skill [Battle Rhythm].
Before getting his battle style skill Xavier had used [Battle Rhythm] to help predict an opponent's next move but now he could not just react, but by carefully orchestrating the fight to happen on his terms he could rely on his opponents own ingrained movements from training to get them to stick to the rhythm he was dictating even when they initially wanted to diverge. What was even scarier was that he had done the same thing to Ajax and he hadn’t even realized for how long he had been going with it.
That one spar was the only one Ajax took part in before they arrived at the next dungeon. He had spent the rest of his time working on his Vibration mana with Lexi, though he could tell something was up with her ever since he showed her he had gained the same affinity. It wasn’t that she wasn’t happy for him but something was eating away at her.
“What’s going on?” Ajax asked as they retired for the evening the night before they arrived at the dungeon.
“It’s nothing.” Lexi said.
Despite Ajax not being the most perspective person when it came to social situation he could tell it most certainly wasn’t nothing. “It’s not nothing. You can tell me.”
“Fine…” Lexi let out a deep sigh as she turned to look Ajax in the eye, as she took in a deep breath Ajax could tell she was building up the courage to admit what was wrong. “I’m afraid you are going to just leave me behind.” Lexi admitted.
Ajax’s instinctual reaction was to deny that he would ever do that but he caught himself. He took a moment to digest what Lexi had just said. Throughout their entire relationship Ajax had always been a few steps stronger than Lexi, that hadn’t been a problem for them then so what was it that caused it to be a problem now.
There were two things that Ajax’s mind went to. The first was that not only was Ajax stronger still but that the gap between them was actively increasing as time passed. Had the gap between them stayed the same Lexi wouldn’t have started to have these feelings of inadequacy.
The second thing was that Ajax had gained the same Legendary affinity Lexi had. Before they had gone on the expedition outside of Gryndor Ajax had access to all the affinities Lexi had and even a few more on top of that. For a moment there both of them had also gained a Legendary affinity each but now not only had Ajax gained two affinities one of them was the same one Lexi had. This on top of all the extra stats Ajax was gaining with each dungeon not to mention his most recent Achievement, as he thought about all this Ajax felt a pit form in his own stomach about how he might actually pull too far ahead of Lexi to the point she couldn’t join him on any of his future adventures.
“You see it too…” Lexi whispered as she noticed Ajax’s eyes widened, a small part of her had hoped that he would just deny it, while this response was better for them in the long run in the short term it increased the pressure she was feeling.
“I don’t know how to help...” Ajax finally said as he hugged Lexi closer. “But don’t give up hope, after this trip your stats will have increased enough that your grandfather may be able to teach you further.”
Ajax’s words actually brought Lexi’s spirits up. Before they left Gryndor Lexi had hit a wall in terms of what her grandfather could teach her because she simply couldn’t push her skills any further because of her limited stats. This was one of the big issues many people who were extremely talented faced in that their skill would grow too quickly, once they capped out due to stats they had a much harder time gaining the experience to level to push the cap further out.
Ajax was actually one of the best examples for this. Despite the fact that his skills were actually a little under the level expected of someone as talented as he was, at least for his level, he had only gotten to that high of a level because he had about three times as many skills.
“I’ll make sure you’ll get to delve more in the future as well.” Ajax promised as much to Lexi as he did to himself. “It will be a decade, maybe two, before you reach the point where you’ll lose out on the stats any of these dungeons can provide for you and I’ll make sure there is another delve ready for you to push further.”
Ajax’s promise helped not only with his own determination but it also helped ease Lexi’s own fears a little as they both cuddled together before going to sleep. Tomorrow they would be delving and they needed to be as rested as possible.
The fourth dungeon in Deepwood had a thirteen level jump between floors and started with a floor that housed monsters between levels thirty two and thirty seven. Ajax was slightly disappointed by how the math worked out as he would only be able to get the clear stats for only four floors.
More than that everyone was slightly more relaxed as they got ready to enter this dungeon because of how the breakpoints worked out. While none of them were going to be leaving their guards down, the floors worked out in such a way that all of them would be fighting a few levels below the highest floor they had already cleared in other dungeons. This was especially true of Lexi who had managed to just barely defeat a level seventy and would now only be fighting a level sixty three.
“I hope you’re not thinking-” Ajax said as they stood before the entrance of the dungeon.
“No, I’m not thinking of trying to kill the level seventy six.” Lexi cut him off before he finished, she had entertained the idea for longer than she’d like to admit and while she knew the danger she would be exposed to would be limited with the prince there to interfere the gap was just too big. “I would need to be pushing the limits of my abilities to even try something like that.”
While running through all of the dungeons like this one after the other was a big boost for each of them because of the stats they gained it did also mean that as they went further and further along their journey they were also losing out on just what percentage of their full power they could bring to bear.
Before she had left Gryndor Lexi was confident that she had mastered what she was capable of and could bring out close to one hundred percent of what her stats, skills and spells could do. While she was stronger now than when she began the added stats, skills were not yet fully mastered. More than that because they were doing so many dungeons the increase in power was one of the largest ones she had ever experienced in such a short span of time.
Lexi had only seen such a dramatic change in her stats two times before, the first was when she reached the age of ten and had finally gotten to spend all of the stats she had been gathering, the second was when she had first consumed all of the potion she could get a use out of across four months under her grandfather’s guidance. Both times it had taken her years with her family's support to once again be able to leverage all of the power she was capable of.
“Ajax, a word.” The prince approached Ajax once they entered the dungeon.
“Yes?” Ajax was confused why the prince would want a private word like this. Lexi’s recent confession had him worried that it would also be something bad.
“I am not sure what happened as you cleared the last dungeon, nor am I sure just what the new skills you gained from killing the assassin mean in terms of your full abilities.” the prince was deadly serious as he spoke, not an ounce of his usual joking attitude could be seen. “But you are not attempting the seventh floor.”
Ajax was surprised by what the prince said. In a moment of stunned silence Ajax redid the math to make sure he wasn’t mistaken but no, the prince was saying that Ajax shouldn’t try killing a level one hundred and forty one miniboss. Something he had no intention of trying anyway.
“I had no intention of trying that.” Ajax said. “Why wouldn’t I do so if I could?”
“Because I can’t clear the eighth floor.” the prince responded. “ The risk is just too great.”
The eighth floor would have level one hundred and sixty seven minibosses on it, while they would be strong Ajax had no doubt that the prince would be able to clear all of them in time without much issue, at worst they might have to spend some extra time on the seventh floor to make sure the main mana type of the floor was favorable for the prince. The big problem was the floor boss, since a floor boss of that level could very much kill even the prince if a bad matchup came up.
“I see.” Ajax acknowledged. “No need to worry, I’m not there just yet.” In an odd twist it was Ajax making the joke with cocky grin and the prince that was looking at him with a serious air.

I think that spiling everything need to be done, but only when she is married to him.

2024-09-10 22:48:36 +0000 UTCHim sharing his earth stuff with her is the dumbest thing ever! They're just dating, sure its been 3-4 years but theses people live for 200-500 years like its nothing. Until they're married there's no sharing. This is a medieval structured society with magic. They'll hang them upside down and shake him till everything falls out using his family as hostages. Because; he's already gonna be a threat to the royal family with how powerful he's gonna get. Once you tack on earth and dragons... Please... I can honestly say if he ever tells anyone other then his immediate family I'm done with this story because it's nothing but plot armor keeping him out of a dungeon at that point.

2024-09-09 02:40:50 +0000 UTCI also feel like the trait would give Lexi a reason to stay behind other than she’s just not as strong as Ajax. because now she would actively want to stay behind because it would be more valuable than actually going with Ajax then she could learn a lot more from her grandfather and push past her limits exponentially. This would also help Lexi get rid of her anxiety about the power difference between her and Ajax. Getting a trait like that would basically guarantee that she would be second only to Ajax. Then she quite literally couldn’t be left behind unless she never did anything to grow. I would imagine that this trait could appear as a culmination of having a bunch of different mana types at a certain level while also having a combined mental stat total of over 1000. Another requirement might also be to have a legendary mana aspect. We don’t actually know how many mana aspects Lexi has so she might meet that requirement. Ajax already meets all those requirements because he already has a permanent trait. It did not apply to him. Based on how many people we know that have permanent traits, it would appear that permanent traits are pretty hard to come by.

2024-09-08 17:32:58 +0000 UTCAh nice yeah, the Archmage trait makes a lot of sense to me too! Though I'm kind of wondering if maybe it's something you get when your Intellect hits 1,000? I remember when Arianwyn first saw Ajax she thought he was much older and hat a vitality above 1,000 which would suggest that something might happen after a stat passes the 1,000 mark? and given the Archmage hopeful achievement had to do with total mental stats, I'm thinking there may be a connection? Either way though any magic boosting trait could be a big boon for Lexi. I also think it would be really good to get it before getting back, or shortly there after, as she's consolidating all her gains with her grandfather, and working on her domain. it could be interesting if it lowered the stat requirements needed to level her magic skills, that may be an interesting way to allow her to catch up faster? With her domain I'm hoping that her training with ajax using mana syphon might be able to produce some interesting results like with Arianwyn. It would be good for them to both admit a few things to each other!

2024-09-08 16:13:51 +0000 UTCYeah, I was the one that mentioned the Archmage trait. I said that this is a potential trait that she could get because of the achievement that Ajax got when he turned 15 called “Archmage hopeful”. Her getting a trait like that now before she goes back to Gryndor would be very beneficial. It would allow her grandfather to teach her everything that he wants to teach her even though she’s still at a low level. This would allow her to strengthen her domain skill also Getting chanting past level 75 to shorten the chant. This would make her domain so much more versatile and a lot more usable in combat. Not to mention that she has a lot more room to grow her domain than elves do. They mentioned during the tournament that elves typically go into two out of the three mental stats where as Lexi got her domain later so she has her stats a lot more spread apart. Ajax and her grandfather are the two perfect people to train under or get advice from about this kind of stuff to be able to help her keep up with Ajax. She is going to have to work really hard at getting strong over these next few years if she wants a chance to keep up with Ajax. And I would like Lexi to be able to come to terms and admit that to Ajax.

2024-09-07 15:26:22 +0000 UTCHe 100% needs to tell her about divine witness if he's serious about her. She needs to know why he's so far ahead. I know he wants to keep it secret but at some point he has to trust her enough. I think the prince is very worried about whatever reward he got at the end of the other dungeon. Without it I don't think he'd have been able to even injure the assassin, so he knows it was something. Ajax 100% underestimates how hard it would be to get 100 skills, I wouldn't be surprised if the kingdom didn't know.

2024-09-07 10:58:07 +0000 UTCThe 6th floor is only level 115 unfortunately, 7th is 141, he would need to do it on the 8th floor ☠️😫 However there is a possibility that there is a different achievement for solo killing a straight up dungeon Boss that's 2x your level?

2024-09-07 10:56:04 +0000 UTCI also kind of want to see Ajax sharing more with Lexi, and I agree sharing some earth knowledge could be very helpful. Especially with her maybe picking up a Gravity Affinity? Though I guess her grandfather will first have to create some chants for Gravity. I'm wanting more and more to see Lexi pick up either her grandfathers skill or a related skill that will allow her to develop her own spells.... What might be very interesting would be a Lore Skill for the Divine Language? (I think that's what it's called) We haven't seen much about lore skills since I think it was the collectors scout first described his one. I'm also hoping for Lexi to help Ajax with that achievement, it is apparently possible at least according to hatchet for the 3x version, so long as both participants qualify for the achievement... though that particular achievement is for dungeon mini-bosses.... hopefully there is a separate but related achievement for doing the same outside a dungeon, and includes humanoids! Or maybe the 3x version eliminates the mini-boss requirement? [Against Overwhelming Odds] doesn't increase it's difficulty by increasing levels, rather it increases the number of kills you need, so there is an opening for a 3x Achievement outside of dungeons I would also like to see her getting a trait! Both [Mana Constitution], and [Witch] would be good but maybe there's an even better one out there? Someone had mentioned the possibility of an [Archmage] trait a little while ago, that might be interesting for her to get!

2024-09-07 09:59:43 +0000 UTCI'm glad to see Lexi wanting to keep pushing herself! Let's hope she can get [Pick On Someone Your Own Size] by the end of all this and catch up a bit with ajax. What do y'all think she would pick if she gets the legendary version? I'm thinking [Inspectors Eye] the knowledge gained from that I feel is too powerful to pass up. What ever happened with back when Ajax was escorting those 2 nobles with the collectors at the Lessis dungeon he noticed that the obelisk released a mana pulse that drew in all the monsters, and wondered if he syphoned that pulse could he get the obelisk to only pull a fraction of the floor to him, has he experimented with that anymore?

2024-09-07 09:50:54 +0000 UTCI feel it would be rather difficult to line up the timing to have ajax out of the dungeon and not the prince, generally there's only a few hours of a gap between the two. How would the person in the dungeon know that ajax has come out? I don't think communication with people outside the dungeon is possible? Though I might be wrong there and it's simply never happened to this point?

2024-09-07 09:47:28 +0000 UTCthanks for chap! hopefully he doesn't feel the need to spill his guts to Lexi . while it might make her feel better, it won't change the fact that he will continue to outpace her and well everyone else, besides while the companionship is good generally, he tied himself down too early...I mean he's going to the wilds for a bond, and sure to encounter challenges that make him even more powerful, and I think he should probably be alone for those, and besides she will have her own responsibilities within her house how can she expect to be with him all the time....well excited to see how it all pans out!

2024-09-07 07:15:49 +0000 UTCI think it would be interesting if when the assassin attacks Ajax, that somehow him and Lexi would end up working together (Somehow) to where Ajax gets the achievement for killing someone three times his level. But Lexi would also get a reward as well. The only thing that I could see Lexi getting that would allow her to at least make up the difference and somewhat stay on a similar level to Ajax would be a Trait. I think she needs a trait that is specifically catered towards a genius mage. One that increases mana skill acquisition, quite similar to Ajax’s skill acquisition, but more specified towards Mana Skills. This would also increase the level cap to level 150 as well as the leveling speed of Mana Skills greatly.

2024-09-07 05:50:43 +0000 UTCYah that’s a scary thought. Ajax will be tired when he exits the dungeon and low on resources. Suddenly a dungeon break at level 167 pops out and all hell breaks loose. The only choice I could see for their group would to just rush back into the dungeon and camp on the first floor for a while as they wait for things to clear out on the outside.

2024-09-07 05:23:14 +0000 UTCI think Teej‘s idea has more merit. Jumping floors sounds unlikely, as you need to be in a party to end up in the same dungeon instance, so I don‘t see how the assassins would get someone into Ajax‘s instance. Having someone in a separate instance cause a dungeon break however sounds entirely doable.

2024-09-07 05:13:41 +0000 UTCI didn’t even think about that! The assassins should know he’s going to all of the dungeons, they just need to sneak someone in there right before and cause a break while the prince is still in there clearing the final floor.

2024-09-07 05:06:08 +0000 UTCThis man is starting to scare one of the strongest people in the kingdom with how high he can delve. “But you are not attempting the seventh floor.” “Because I can’t clear the eighth floor.” the prince responded. “ The risk is just too great.” He’s probably thinking that Ajax is going to use more of his new “poison” to one shot level 150 bosses now. And for Lexi, I think he needs to tell her about everything he’s keeping secret and how big of an unfair advantage it is. It probably won’t completely get rid of her anxiety, but she needs to realize that there’s no way she’s gonna ever keep up with him. He’s doing good promising her that he will do whatever he can to keep her as close to him as possible in power. But if she knows about his earth knowledge and everything else that he’s working on, she might be able to pick up more things to keep her moving forward.

2024-09-07 05:01:34 +0000 UTCSounds like a twist in the wind. Could they be forced to jump levels? Creating an obelisk break would be a great opportunity to assassinate him.

I'm betting his "Ballroom Dancing" skills are pretty high to get this skill. 😂🤣 Ajax: I'm never getting this skill! 😭 Lexi: Don't worry, baby, I'll help you...😈 Ajax: Oh NO! You mean...😳 Anna: Parties. 😈 Lexi: LOTS of parties! 🤩 Ajax: 😱😱😱 Ajax could tell she was building up the courage to admit what was wrong. “I’m afraid you are going to just leave me behind.” Lexi admitted. I'm afraid that ship sailed LONG ago. Ajax has already left everyone behind. 😱🙄 “But don’t give up hope, after this trip your stats will have increased enough that your grandfather may be able to teach you further.” Good boy. A reminder that they both have COMPLETELY different builds. She's a squishy Glass Cannon, he's a Thumper. 🫡😉 once they capped out due to stats they had a much harder time gaining the experience to level to push the cap further out. Yep, our boi encountered that as Prodigal Apprentice. 🤔🧐 he had only gotten to that high of a level because he had about three times as many skills. Which was why he trained for the Tournament by restricting himself solely to combat. 🫡 Tomorrow they would be delving and they needed to be as rested as possible. Ajax: Um...Lexi, this isn't (moan...) restful! (kissing...)🥰 Lexi: But for me, it (groping...) relaxes me right up. 😍😚 This was especially true of Lexi who had managed to just barely defeat a level seventy and would now only be fighting a level sixty three. Lexi: That was scary! 😱 Benedict: Us too! 😳 Lexi: Huh?! 🤔 Benedict: Ajax nearly ripped our arms out of the socket holding him back. 😱 Lexi: 😍🥰 More than that because they were doing so many dungeons the increase in power was one of the largest ones she had ever experienced in such a short span of time. You should have seen Ajax nearly bouncing off the walls when he cashed in his Apprentice stats. 🙄😳😂🤣 Both times it had taken her years with her family's support to once again be able to leverage all of the power she was capable of. Lexi, you're now one of 12 Legendary Skill holders in the Kingdom. Ignore Ajax, he's an Isekai cheater. Your family will do whatever is necessary to get you the potions you need, and your boyfriend will soon be making the best in the kingdom. DON'T WORRY. 😉😈 “But you are not attempting the seventh floor.” Finally sone sanity! Oh CRAP! That's coming from the Eldest Prince of Gryndor?! Just how dangerous is it?! 😱😳 “Because I can’t clear the eighth floor.” the prince responded. “ The risk is just too great.” Ah. He can clear it, but not guarantee any leakers. That makes sense. 😶 The big problem was the floor boss, since a floor boss of that level could very much kill even the prince if a bad matchup came up. “I see.” Ajax acknowledged. “No need to worry, I’m not there just yet.” In an odd twist it was Ajax making the joke with cocky grin and the prince that was looking at him with a serious air. FLAG! Sixth floor Floor Boss spawn. 😱. And for sone reason Ajax will face it alone...and get the triple level achievement?! 🤯😳🙄 (that's my prediction) 😛🐶
