While she manipulates events and tempts the Usher family, she isn't necessarily portrayed as evil. Some interpret her as the snake who caused mankind out of the garden of Eden. Something about temptations not being traditional devil figure. She’s mankind’s greatest enemy, the choices we make.

I’ve said it before, but I really love your insight and commentary on everything you react to. I wonder if there could have been any scenario where Verna forgave the deal. Specifically, if they would have done good in the world instead of destroying lives. However, I think she knew that wasn’t the direction they would go. I’m a bit sad this series is over.
