Important: The OGL Changes and What It Means for Us

I'm sure many of you have been following the developments on the OGL changes that WOTC plans to implement, and perhaps wondering how those changes might affect what my team and I create.

For the sake of brevity, I won't rehash the upcoming changes as many posts and videos out there already explain them. The TL;DR is that it appears at this point that WOTC intends to revoke OGL version 1.0a (which we and many other publishers use to create content) and force creators to agree to OGL version 1.1. Furthermore, to put it bluntly, the terms of version 1.1 are disgusting and stomp all over creator rights -- no one ever should agree to them, in my opinion. I certainly won't.

So where do we go from here?

My team and I are in the process of consulting with attorneys who specialize in this matter, and we've been in contact with other creators to strategize on a path forward.

I don't want to reveal too many details prematurely, before we have a chance to discuss with legal experts and thoroughly weigh options. That said, I'm very confident that we'll work out a way forward that will allow us to continue creating the content you all love.

What can you do to help?

First and foremost, spread awareness and raise hell. (If you saw my video that came out this morning, you know I am.) Do it respectfully and professionally, of course. We should strive to show the ethics and morals that those who wish to revoke OGL v1.0a and bully creators into signing the revolting version 1.1 clearly lack.

1. You can support by signing the OpenDnD letter here: https://www.opendnd.games/
(The form appears to currently have some technical issues; but please check back for when it's back up.)

2. Spread awareness and use the hashtag #opendnd when you're on social media.

3. Continue supporting publishers that may be affected by these changes, even if their content is paused or disrupted.

(I personally just spend nearly $600 on Pathfinder 2.0 books and PDFs, in part because my home group is moving to that system, but also to support them.)

4. Make your voice heard. Make Wizards of the Coast listen to us. Write them, call them, @ them on social media. Don't remain quiet about something that stands to ruin our beloved hobby.

Thank you!

As I've stated multiple times on my live streams, ALL OF YOU, my wonderful patrons, are the primary reason my team and I can do what we do. We appreciate your monthly support so very much. Words cannot express our gratitude.

Now, let's fight the good fight!

Comments

We are discussing implementing a "system variable" method that allows us to create resources that can be used for more than just 5e. It will likely take some time (read months) to fully implement, though.

I cannot really afford at this time to purchase the Pathfinder system books. I did pick up all the BF items. My groups are moving in that direction. Are your magazines going to go system neutral or pathfinder in direction? Regards,

Totally support you and agree no sane creator should work under 1.1
