Vlog 182 breakdown of the megaduck wiring

taking a look at the project i have for the upcoming video! same old storey of miscalculating the amount of work involved, blind optimist. i was hoping to have this counter done and video up this weekend just passed but after 30 hours of soldering on friday and saturday it seemed it was going to take a little longer than anticipated!!! got about another 30 hours of 3d printing to go (cant wait for infinite z axis conveyor belt printers to be readily available so i can get a good nights sleep without an alarm going off every hour and a half when a part is done! ha).

so yes! full speed ahead on the counter and should be up and running in a couple of days from now.... *touch wood

complete and utter overkill haha

then the apc plan if and when the batteries on that dies is get another power option and plug it in elsewhere. all in all you can plug about 20 different power things into it, it has sockets galore. i mean if im feeling fancy ill get another APC just so there are 2 running it anyway, and then 4 12v power supplies incase 1 dies

the current plan to get it going is to have the APC powering 2 12 volt wallwarts going to their own capacitor boards (without the 47uf's on the actual clock boards themselves.) both 12volts go via their own set of caps, maybe big 3300uf's. then they both connect to a power input on the circuit and also the ground of both of them are connected..... my plan would be design a capacitor powerr board on pcb as the first ones will be stripboard, it gives me an opportunity to try the "hot swap" within the first couple of weeks to see if it goes without a hitch, this will involve unplugging 1 of the 12volt setups from the power boards, then removing it from the shared ground, swap it with the new pcb. plug it back into ground then plug it into the clock.... then do the same with the other.... and if this proves an issue! then atleast its an issue in 2 weeks not 10 years haha

open to opinions

they apc batteries are not hot swappable no. but at the point they need replacing ill have another one which ill plug up then remove the other... worry about that sorta stuff when it comes haha

each powerboard has 2 power inputs but yeah each powerboard has a 47uf but all 10 wqill add together, and tbh im debating wether to add them or not, i havent included many capacitors yet. might have them on a board before because if they become a problem down the line they will be a bit of a pain to remove whilst on ha so maybe its worth just 1 cap not sure yet, either way its a bit of a last minute bodge!!!

Are you going to put some big CAPS on the Clock Power board, and have a second power input to the board? I think the internal batteries on the APC BackUps are not hot swapable.
