LoSP Lore Compendium: Demigod Powers
Added 2025-01-29 05:02:20 +0000 UTCHalf-god, half-man. It is what demigods are. The perfect balance between the divine and the mortals. The best of both worlds. But, as power goes, so comes challenge. Demigods have a challenging life, facing monsters and threats that come from the literal depths of hell.
They either rise above them or die trying. It is what makes them precious. It is what makes them special. That is what makes them… heroes.
And heroes, determine the course of history. They can challenge the power of fate. They can make waves by their very presence. They have the power to make the world… or raze it.
But with power, something more comes to mind.
It is said that a hero is defined by their actions, not the powers they are graced with. Yet, we all wonder what powers a hero has.
So, let us explore the powerset that a certain demigod child of the Olympians (or blessed by them) may have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zeus/ Jupiter:
Zeus is the King of Olympus and one of the most powerful divine beings in the Greek world. He is the undisputed lord of the skies and has powers that blow mostgods and godesses out of the water.
He is one of the Big three and has fathered many children over the centuries. In recent times, he has two: Thalia and Jason Grace. A child, bearing his full powers, could be very lethal, and very dangerous. Their powers, if they receive all, will include:
Lightning control – A child of Zeus can shoot and summon bolts of lightning, which, at full power, can easily level a decent sized building— if not more. They can use it to electrocute enemies, and even reduce them to ashes, depending on circumstances
Aerokinesis — The ability to control air and winds is inherent to children of Zeus.
Atmokinesis — Children of Zeus can control weather to a certain extent.
Storm summoning — As an added benefit of Aerokinesis and Atmokinesis, they can also summon thunderstorms and tornadoes if enraged and skilled enough. Thalia, while not completely there yet, can summon winds fast enough to hinder enemies and deflect arrows if needed.
Ability to fly — As shown many times in canon, Jason Grace can control the winds in order to fly.
Enhanced strength — As a child of the Big Three, they are better than normal demigods, leading to an enhanced physiology. While demigods are inherently better than mortal children in body, the children of Zeus take it a step even further.
Command/ leadership — A lesser-known quantity that they passively inherit is the ability to command and lead groups, like their father leads Olympus. Thalia and Jason were both born leaders, as we have seen.
Ability to talk with birds, especially eagles
Poseidon/ Neptune:
The god of the sea is the most powerful god on the Olympian council, with a vast array of powers, most rather destructive in nature. Poseidon represents the unstoppable power of the sea— its vastness and its limitless power, which he embodies. Most of his children do not receive his full set of abilities, with Percy Jackson being considered a general exception.
These powers are:
Hydrokinesis — The power to control water is something that all children of Poseidon, or for that matter, sea deities have. They can manipulate water and shape it to their will. This also extends to breathing underwater.
Geokinesis — Poseidon is also known as the Earthshaker, with the ability to cause Earthquakes and landslides. It is an ability his children seldom inherit. But Percy has, utilizing the ability in new and unique ways.
Atmokinesis— Poseidon is also the stormbringer, and his children can summon storms, which, while less precise than the children of Zeus (or Alexander), can be a lot more destructive.
Electrokinsesis — Through storms, they can also summon lightning.
Shapeshifting — Some have the ability to shift to animals of their wish, which is the one power Percy has not inherited from his father. A famous user would be Frank, who was a descendant of Poseidon.
Control ships with their will and have an inborn ability to navigate the seas and water bodies.
They can also talk to animals like equestrian animals (like horses and zebras) and all sorts of aquatic life.
Hades/ Pluto:
The third of the Big Three, Hades is the god of the dead, wealth, and the underworld amongst other things. His children are often considered dangerous, and have been on the wrong side of history many times. But when they’re good, they’re a force to be reckoned with. Nico di Angelo and Hazel Levesque are two prominent examples of his demigod children.
Powers include:
Necromancy: The ability to summon and command the dead. This includes raising skeletons, calling upon spirits, and banishing undead enemies.
Geokinesis: Like Poseidon, Hades has a deep connection to the earth, allowing his children to manipulate rocks, minerals, and precious metals, especially when birthed by his roman form.
Shadow Travel: The ability to teleport through shadows, which is both powerful and draining. Nico di Angelo uses this ability extensively.
Umbrakinesis: The more powerful children of Hades can control the shadows and darkness, using it as both an offensive and defensive weapon.
Death Sense: The innate ability to sense when someone is about to die or when a soul has passed on.
Curse Manipulation: The ability to inflict curses or hexes on others, a rare but potent power tied to the underworld. They are more magically inclined than most demigods, save for the children of Hecate herself.
Hestia: The goddess of the hearth, home, and family is perhaps the most loved goddess in the entire pantheon, alongside being the eldest Olympian. Though she is a maiden goddess, and has never had demigod children, there are a select few, who are blessed by her.
Pyrokinesis: Complete control over fire, including Greek flames is the most dangerous power that those blessed by hestia wield. In addition, they are fire-proof and can stand immense heats without being harmed or burned.
Healing Flames: The ability to heal minor wounds or illnesses using fire.
Enhanced Cooking and Homemaking Skills: A seemingly mundane, yet invaluable, gift that ensures perfect meals and a comforting environment. This also extends to summoning homemade meals.
Protective Auras: Those blessed by her may gain the ability to create shields or wards that protect homes and loved ones.
Empathy: A heightened sense of understanding emotions and promoting peace among others. They can calm people and even break influences.
Hera/Juno: As the goddess of marriage and family, Hera does not have demigod children but can bless individuals with powers reflecting her domains
Massively Enhanced Strength and Stamina: Hera’s champions have, in the past, exhibited extraordinary physical abilities in service of their tasks. Heracles was blessed by her and had immense strength. Strength enough to tear the Nemean lion in two amongst other feats.
Aura of Command: Those blessed by Hera often inspire loyalty and respect among others. They are the champion of the Queen of Olympus and royal command comes with it.
Immunity to influence: The champions of Hera are terribly tough to influence through magic or divine auras that many gods inspire. They can shrug off anything short of direct, divine action.
Protection Wards: The ability to create powerful protective charms or blessings for families and homes.
Divine Judgment: The ability to see the truth in disputes and mediate conflicts effectively.
Demeter/Ceres:
The goddess of agriculture and harvest, Demeter’s children have a natural connection to the earth and its bounty.
Chlorokinesis: Complete control over plants, including rapid growth and manipulation of vines, flowers, and trees.
Enhanced Farming Abilities: An instinctive understanding of agriculture, ensuring abundant harvests.
Weather Influence: A limited ability to influence weather, particularly to promote rain or sunshine for crops.
Communication with Nature Spirits: A deep bond with dryads and other nature spirits comes as a part of the deal.
Alexander:
The seventh elder Olympian, forgotten by history, was once the most powerful of gods in the divine world. An undisputed warrior, he was the god of time, night, storms, war, swordsmanship, and heroes. Yet, he has only had a handful of demigod children, and even fewer champions. The only one in living memory? Percy Jackson himself, who has Alexander in his head, as his companion.
The full range of his powers include:
Chronokinesis: The control over time is one none except Percy have received, which too, is in a limited fashion. At full power, they can control time, slow it, stop it, and see through history like a book if they need.
Umbrakinesis: Usually limited to Shadow travel, the skill can increase to control over darkness and shadows if a wielder's grasp on the domain is strong enough.
Storm: They can summon storms, like Alexander can, yet, it is often limited as Storms weren’t the strongest power of his.
Swordsmanship: The children and those blessed by Alexander are undisputed in being the best there are at the art of swordsmanship. They can wield any and all types of swords and gain a familiarity in their use within minutes.
War command: The ability to command people on the battlefield comes from Alexander being the commander of Olympian forces in both great battles.
Ares/Mars:
The god of war embodies strength, aggression, and battlefield prowess. His children are natural-born warriors with abilities tied to combat and physical endurance.
Enhanced Combat Skills: They have exceptional skill with all weapons, often instinctively knowing how to use them.
Enhanced Strength and Stamina: Ares’ children are physically superior to many other demigods, built for prolonged battles and brawls.
Battlefield Intuition: The ability to read and adapt to the flow of combat, often predicting enemy moves.
Berserker Rage: In moments of extreme anger, they can enter a state of heightened power and durability, though it may cloud their judgment. Really powerful children of Ares can gain invulnerability in situations of extreme danger that manifests as a red glow.
Athena/Minerva:
Athena is the goddess of wisdom, strategy, and warfare crafts demigod children who excel in intellect and planning.
Enhanced Intelligence: They have incredible problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking. They have an IQ that exceeds most humans on the planet. Children of Athena can see possibilities while in combat and their brain can work out numerous ways to take down opponents even way more powerful than they are. (Think danger levels of batman with prep time.)
Combat Mastery: Skilled in martial arts and weapon use, particularly defensive and tactical combat. The children of Athena can gain expertise very quickly when handling weapons, even if they’re foreign to them.
Craftsmanship: An innate ability to design and create tools, inventions, and structures. This also extends to gaining instinctive abilities like weaving, and instrument handling.
Knowledge Absorption: A natural ability to quickly learn and recall information. The more powerful children of Athena can even have a photographic memory.
Telepathy: Since Athena creates her children, rather than birthing them, she never hands out this ability. But if she did, her children would have the ability to read minds and influence thoughts, which would’ve made them VERY dangerous.
Artemis/Diana:
The virgin goddess of the hunt and moon does not have children but blesses young women who join her Hunt.
Enhanced Agility and Speed: The hunters of Artemis have exceptional reflexes and the ability to move silently through the wilderness.
Archery Proficiency: Being the handmaidens of the greatest archer in the world, they gain a mastery of the bow and arrow, often surpassing any mortal or demigod with little effort.
Wilderness affinity: The hunt often stays in forest, and all skills that one needs comes instinctively, be it survival, the ability to navigate forests, and also, the ability to communicate with the wild.
Heightened Senses: Enhanced hearing, vision, and tracking abilities.
Lunar Affinity: Those blessed by her have increased strength and power under the moonlight. The fuller the moon, the greater their power.
Immortality (Conditional): Huntresses stop aging and remain immortal as long as they serve Artemis.
Apollo:
The god of the sun, music, and healing has children with a wide array of artistic and life-giving abilities.
Photokinesis: The more powerful children of Apollo can control light and have the ability to create blinding flashes or concentrated beams. Some, through history, can shoot beams of light through their eyes.
Healing Abilities: The power to heal others using divine energy or sunlight. They are natural doctors
Archery Proficiency: Mastery of the bow and arrow, second only to Artemis. But one power the children of Apollo, or his most powerful children anyway, have is to enchant the said arrows to create flashbangs, sonic bursts, or even bio-weapons.
Music Mastery: An innate talent for music and poetry, often capable of inspiring others or influencing emotions. They can also use music to curse others, as demonstrated in canon. This also extends to whistling supersonic and ultrasonic noises, that can kill monsters.
Prophecy: Some children inherit the ability to receive visions of the future.
Aphrodite/Venus:
The goddess of love and beauty blesses her many children with charm and charisma.
Charmspeak: The ability to influence others through their voice, bending their will.
Enhanced Beauty: A radiant appearance that draws attention and admiration.
Relationship sense: The children of Aphrodite can sense relationships and love.
Rose growing: The children of Aphrodite can produce roses out of thin air.

The god of wine and revelry grants his children abilities tied to madness and vitality.
Chlorokinesis: Control over grapevines and plants associated with winemaking.

Party Aura: A passive ability to bring joy, energy, and sometimes chaos to groups.
Alcohol Manipulation: Control over wine and other alcoholic substances.

AND... DONE! Hope that clears up a few doubts.
Now, the powers listed are more of a general list, than, let's say, a perfect one. Demigods can inherit varying abilities, sometimes all, sometimes none, sometimes even different in degree of varsatility.
For instance, Poseidon cannot creat shockwaves or level devastating earthquake punches, but Percy found a way to do so. Poseidon's is more like a natural disaster in comparison, as most his powers are. Percy made them more concentrated and arguably, even more lethal.
Not all abilities will be inherited either.
Anyhow, the next update will be for RoLP!
