The Best House for Harry

Hey all,

I hope you all have read the latest chapters of my new story, Black Dawn. If you have, do let me know how you are finding the story out to be so far!

Now, as for the question itself, it doesn't have to do directly do with the fic, but I'd still love your thoughts. The question is:

In which Hogwarts House do you think that Harry becomes the most compelling/interesting character? (Or which house, in your opinion, is best suited for Harry?)

If you wish to share your reasons for your choice, do feel free to do so in the comments or discord chats. It is always interesting when what-ifs are discussed, isn't it?

P.S. As for the updates, RoLP's next chapter will go up before the weekend or so is the plan. I too am in the middle of exams, which will go on till the end of this month. But I'll try my utmost to maintain the update schedule and keep it on track.

Worst case scenario, I won't be publishing any short stories or side-pieces this month if I lack time to write them, instead sticking to the main stories. Writing those do take up a day or two (or more in some cases), so, if I utilize the time to write main stories instead, I'll stay on track. And since I am free in December after my exams, I can pick up the slack of short-pieces and side stories.

Anyhow, do let me know the opinions on the poll!

… Especially if with the combination of Potter ancestry with his mother’s family makes him the owner of Hogwarts.

Lmao

Because of his magical powers showing at a young age…. All four, rotating one month per house

I must say, this is the most interesting take for Hufflepuff Harry, which is rare to the point of obscurity. I'd say it is because he hasn't had anyone to be loyal to yet, be it family or friends. But still, your point stands.

Up front, everyone has aspects of all four houses. The hat tries to put them where it feels they are best suited based on their dominant characteristics and where they could accomplish the most. Slytherin might suit Harry in pursuit of greatness, Gryffindor for his "saving people" thing, Ravenclaw for his capacity for learning: he may dislike studying but is capable of it if properly motivated. Hufflepuff however will do him the most good. He needs his friends, and Hufflepuff is where he can find the most loyal friends most easily. His background has damaged him and Hufflepuff is where he can heal and be the social animal he longs to be. And it won't in any way hinder his ambitions or his ability to learn and grow. Nor will it stand in the way of his tendency to heroics, in fact it would probably enhance it even more than Gryffindor would. He would thrive in the Hufflepuff environment in ways he could not in any other house.

I'd say slytherin would probably be where he's most inclined too as he was originally going to be put there in Canon and I don't see him becoming less of a slytherin being raised by Artecus Black and it gives us the pleasure of seeing artulecus rip Snape a new one for bullying Harry

That’s definitely understandable, and I think if you look at any of the houses in the strictest sense, they definitely have their faults. I also very much agree that knowledge is only one aspect of power. But in regards to magic, I think it would be a pretty important aspect to expand your repertoire of abilities. Of course you have to put them into practice, and as much as I might not like Dumbledore overall, he’s a good example of that. The man is definitely very much an academic at heart, but he is knowledgeable on a variety of subjects in regards to magic. He broke the mold in regards to those in Gryffindor. He is an acclaimed alchemist, a transfiguration master, and even knowledgeable on the dark arts. From what I understand, Ravenclaw has their own library, but that could just be a Fanfiction thing as well lol. Anyway, the desire for knowledge would be a great foundation for any magic user. Not just one source, obviously, but trying to find out as much as possible. Access to the black library, finding knowledge that could be given by the room of requirement, the forbidden section, and so on and so forth. Grindelwald was supposed to be incredibly knowledgeable, and he was able to put that knowledge to devastating use. The fact is, a knowledgeable wizard is probably going to be better off than the equivalent of a jock wizard who just focuses on having fun and being good at something like Quidditch. Obviously there is more work to put in than just knowledge, but once you have that foundation, it’s a great foundation to build upon.

I'd give my classic argument here that power has many different facades and parameters, but I'd refrain. Knowledge is only one of the aspects, but I'd wager bookish knowledge would never be enough to win fights or anything at all bar tests and Academic contests. Ravenclaws do irk me at times, especially since they bullied Luna for a different outlook on thinks. And for a house that prides itself on knowledge, they were far too rigid, which, of course, most book nerds are. (imo, you should never restrict yourself to a single source, but do your research, both academic and practical, and come to your own conclusions if you're a true academic. If your talent is memorizing a book, that isn't knowledge. Actually understanding, applying, and exploring is.)

In a world of magic, knowledge is power, so Ravenclaw should undoubtedly encourage that combined with being raised by Sirius, a veteran from the last war.

I dislike Snape oh but he loved lily no he was obsessed with the idea of her ,and draco is the product of his parents, Lucius was not in favor with voldemort so it passed to draco but Abraxas was in favor and it was school "friends" with him so Lucius thought he was untouchable

John7799

A harsher opinion, but not unwarranted. Draco and Snape do get on your nerves. They're the kind of people you don't want in your school. The kind of people most would just love to punch bloody if they could get away with it.

HPfanfictioner66 HP66

I'll be very honest I just want draco to crash and burn and Snape to get ripped to pieces by the lord black
