I'm thinking something along the lines of a sheep-like species, I'm more-or-less drawing blanks on details but I think we should definitely have some wooly friends!

You could have it take on the general form of a snake to deter predators and make it easier to reach places as one unit. I figured nanobots were out of the question so that was the next best thing.
