Comment Unpopular Adult Animation Opinions

So, to keep my promise of doing a new face cam video up here for you guys every month, I thought it’d be a fun time if I reacted to some of your unpopular opinions on adult animation, to see if we agree or disagree! And if you guys like this and think it’s fun, we can do this for other topics too later down the line.

So if you have any unpopular adult animated opinions, comment them below! I’ll give everyone a week so, I’ll be taking comments until September 21st!

And remember: “there are way too many comedies” is not an unpopular opinion!

Much love!

Am I the only one who kind of feels as if nowadays, Family Guy REALLY realized that their audience was mainly children who were chronically online, so they made it catered just for them? It honestly feels more cartoony than usual. Like, it was at the moment in that one Halloween episode when they referenced Larry and Steve that I questioned, "Was that one for the Vailskibum audience?" Either that, or they are catering it just for you with all the heart filled scenes Tariq, IDK.

Im not a fan with King Of The Hill’s episode where Debby died and trying to figure out who killed her. Its like the Simpsons “Who Shot Mr Burns” or “Cartman’s real Father” on South Park just a Cop out ending just not to mess with the Status quo

NightZone

Millennials are weird for hyping up Bluey. It’s ok that to every cartoon you watch is meant for a different age demographic but god damn it

Mai

Adult animated sitcoms owe a lot more to The Flintstones than people think. I believe the reason that most animated sitcoms are about families is like, 70% because of The Flintstones

ipsydipsy

I'm glad ugly animation has its place. I just wish it didn't mean that it's supposed to be a show for adults. It's half the reason I can't watch Rick and Morty. His fucking vomit stained face is terrible.

CleverCover

Ultimate Hot-take - A big part of the reason animation isnt taken seriously is: the voice acting. I've seen so many serious, adult, animated shows that have that anime-style, exaggerated goofy ahh voice acting. It makes the dialogue feel unnatural and childish. Invincible is what triggered this thought for me. Rex Splode especially lol. There'll be serious ass situations and he's coming through with that 90s ass Sonic the hedgehog "radical" energy. I feel this way about most adult animation. Cartoony voices detract from serious situations.

Primm's Hood Cinema

I honestly didn’t mind season 2 of Clone High, and felt people were being way too harsh on it.

American Dad is the Thinking Stoner's Family Guy. Started going through FG again fully for the first time in years, but I stuck with my American Dad watch through because of how solid that show is.

Cerberus

People came in too hot with the “Good Times” reboot when in the original Good Times… it was not a good time. At least in the reboot, they acknowledge the struggle and the animation is really cool.

Andrea

Beavis and butthead do America is the best adult animated film ever

RB

Sausage Party is a good movie. I know the world-building doesn’t make any sense, but I really do like the story.

WantedMinion

I feel like adult shows should make more stupid little references to preschool shows. Kind of like how Family Guy did with that Blues Clues Mailtime scene. Them just reenacting the intros or just scenes from those shows. Sure it would be a little pointless and obscure, but that's why I would like them probably.

Chris C.

This might be a slight tangent, but I really think a lot of people are self-conscious about the true target demographics of some of the stuff they watch. A lot of “adult animation” (particularly comedy) absolutely skews for the 12-18 demographic, and your favorite kids shows are probably in the 6-11 demographic. Hell, as an anime fan, 90% of the shows people love were made with tweens in mind. It’s okay to like and watch something that wasn’t made for your specific age/gender/etc. demographic. A good show is good regardless of that.

i've never commented on patreon so bear with this one (still not used to using shift and enter lol) anyway i feel that adult animation really does thrive in its "ugliness" or at least its experimental nature. tv networks and general audiences are not so comfortable with this mindset in a long-form sense. so you'll mostly see this either on adult swim (which is sadly getting less common) or in an anthology show like love death and robots and FX's cake (btw if you've ever watched this show, you're a state trooper)

STOOVRS

We love in a great age of adult animation where every genre has regulary been explored and its not just comedy

Rusty Shackleford

Idk if this is a hot take or what but people are overreacting over post-golden age/modern simpsons. there are genuine episodes after seasons 3-10 (or whatever season when the golden age ended). For example, Holiday of Future Passed, Thanksgiving of Horror, A Serious Flanders, A Mid-Childhood Nights Dream, and Carl Carlson Rides Again are perfect examples. You niggas are hyperfocusing on the mid or bad episodes lol.

Ian

there has got to be more rotoscoping

licethelouse

I won't argue that Magical Girl Friendship Squad is high art, but I think it's a lot of fun.

The7thDraconian

okay guys, maybe just two per person please lol

ToonrificTariq

Crossing Swords is absolutely underrated. This show can be really damn funny when it needs to be.

INoahGuy

Nick Kroll is always been creepy to me. His dad is a billionaire who owns some weird business. Wikipedia says "businessman credited with creating the corporate investigations industry" I don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound good. Just a rich kid like an Elon Musk type. Plus he's not funny, dude stinks

Chad M Becker

Family guy clone shows could work if they didn't just pander to the "own the libs"/ anti-woke crowd and actually had a solid writing basis.

Revamp Skunk

I've only seen one channel talk about Unsupervised and it's a DAMN shame.

Chad M Becker

Q-Force was not a bad show, it just had a terribly cut trailer that turned people off from actually watching it and giving it a chance. I'm not saying every joke lands or that it's a perfect show, but it's a lot better than people assume.

Mistress Dove

Adult animation is oversaturated with relatable, slice-of-life premises. Having more options for fantasy elements that don't heavily incorporate everyday life tropes could possibly quell audience fatigue (Ex: Unicorn: Warriors Eternal and Primal)

ValkristuhC

I love Linda Belcher & Francine Smith over Peggy Hill & Lois Griffin.

NightZone

LEGENDS OF CHAMBERLAND HIGHTS WAS A FUNNY SHOW AND IM TIRED OF PRETENDING ITS NOT

Worstahj

Idk if it's a "hot take" but hi key a nigga been feindin for some more adult animation focused on highschoolers/ young adults/ college students coming of age type shit i.e undergrads, Daria, downtown hell even good vibes, basically I just mtv to make a new damn cartoon

Worstahj

To kind of slightly retweak blaa6's point, some adult cartoons aren't always that adult, particularly when they think constant sex jokes and profanity means mature

Anthony Estrada

I feel south park is at its best when it utilizes the characters in an original fashion similar to the earlier seasons instead of them commenting on current events

Anthony Estrada

I hate that people treat Family Guy as a joke when Rick & Morty is way more of a joke than that show and stayed way less good than FG did

Patrick Lauer

American Dad is way better than Family Guy, because, in my opinion, the family actually feels like they care for each other

INoahGuy

Tuca and Bertie is one of the most under appreciated shows in existence. The ways the show handles its messages is done in a manner that doesn't treat its audience like babies

INoahGuy

I actually don’t mind shows that base their identity on repeating the same jokes over and over. It can be annoying, but I think most people hate stuff like Hazbin Hotel overly swearing because they just wanna vent and complain. I can tolerate it since I’m pretty sure I have some brain damage. Still haven’t gotten the MRI scan back yet.

Jorge Rosado

Fugget About It is the best Family Guy clone. To the point where I’d even say that it’s better than all of Family Guy.

Jorge Rosado

I think Duckman and The Critic went on too long. Glad someone enjoyed it and it lasted a while, but it’s a bit much for me. Those final seasons have some rough patches (and I’m still salty over that finale idc if they didn’t have anything planned).

Jorge Rosado

While I do love the vibe of shows like Undergrads, Downtown and Mission Hill, they all feel very samey. They tackle similar topics in about the same way.

Jorge Rosado

Kids shows with adult themes like Owl House, Gravity Falls and Infinity Train are more mature than adult cartoons. I'd also argue kids cartoons are better overall than adult cartoons.

blaa6

They could've kept this Hulu Furturama reboot. It's not amazing, or awful... just mid!

Tatyana Johnson

Neither Cleveland show is not nearly as awful as folks give it credit for. It was hindered by people trying to make it "black family guy"

Tatyana Johnson

Not every critically acclaimed or cult classic show that either never got its chance for more seasons, or is desired to make a comeback, needs to be continued. Sometimes the energy of a show fades after the entire production crew leaves. They can’t quite capture the heart, the “lightning in a bottle,” or energy the OG crew had. It’s okay to let it go and put those resources into something fresh.

Also Big Mouth is pretty good. I only watched the first couple of seasons back in the day. I think the characters are so ugly as a deliberate way to repel any creepshit, whether it be accusors, or freaks on the internet who'll pop a stiffy from anything. I think in hindsight that was clever.

frongo

South Park's social commentary is like a chimp with a machine gun. Whether it hits or misses is like a coin toss. Still love it tho

frongo

Current iteration of Lois Griffin might actually be my favorite. Don’t care what anyone else says, I like “quirky mom” Lois, and the focus on the mundanity of her life is how we got bangers like “Customer of the Week” and “A Bottle Episode”. Also, “You Can’t Handle the Booth” is a really neat gimmick that makes a fun episode, can’t believe people actually think it’s one of the worst.

The Dan The Man Show

I originally said something else but thought of something better. We as a society need to knock off treating the bad adult cartoon that just came out as the hot rant target of the month, especially if said show of a potentially harmful nature (ie. Mr. Birchum). Its not fun anymore and only hurts the medium you claim to want to support.

Toon4Thought

South Park isn't as deep or insightful as people like to pretend it is, Matt and Trey are just two teenage boys who never grew up and never evolved their sense of humor

Neb Gaspard

I actually really liked The Cleveland Show. It definitely fell off in the last 2 seasons, and reduced Cleveland's character to being "black" Peter Griffin, but the Brown family tend to treat each other a lot better than the Griffin family and even the Smith family, and if they just focused on keeping the heart of the show consistent, it probably woulda been received more positively. Also, I liked Tim the Bear.

Isaiah Noels

South Park's "lmao, both sides are stupid" ideal has really bit them in the ass lately, especially when it came towards global warming

StarCannonSupernova

Go big or go home

Wes Papes

you came in hot lmfao

ToonrificTariq

Big Mouth is actually a good show, y'all hate on it too hard. It's a good look at the awkwardness of growing up in a very adult fashion.
