Question for Patrons
Added 2016-01-05 23:09:38 +0000 UTCHappy New Year guys! I hope everyone had wonderful holidays.
First off, thank you all so much for your support! It's been a lot of fun figuring out Patreon and I've loved working on all of the minis with the knowledge that people enjoy using them.
I've been thinking about how to improve PrintableHeroes going into 2016 and I wanted to ask you guys if you had any suggestions or things you'd like to see?
Here are a few of my thoughts,
-Adding 3-5 alternate recolor variants, likely as a patron reward.
-Included black & white line art PDFs
-Adding source PSD files as a patron reward.
-Maps, Tile sets, & Props
-Back views have been one of the most common request I tend to get and I've been considering trying to support them, however, if I did I probably would have to reduce the amount of minis I released each month to 2-3 or else continue to do 3-5 front views and only do one back view a month as a patron reward. This is a big one and I've love to hear your guys' thoughts on it.
-Commissions have also been a common request. I've been hesitant to commit to doing commission because my only time to work on PrintableHeroes is after work/family-time at the end of the day and i'm reluctant to give that time up to work on something I may not be excited about. That said, one of my goals with PrintableHeroes is to create art that people actually want to use, so I've been toying with the idea of creating a sort of Request/Bounty Board, where patrons can post up requests along with any notes/reference and even place a "bounty" on it. The bounty would be whatever extra $ you'd be willing to contribute the month that that specific mini is released. If multiple people request the same thing or if there is a high enough bounty on a particular mini that I'm further incentivized to create it.
-Tutorials, either PDFs or video, is there any interest in this?
-Releasing files for Virtual Tabletop (Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, etc)
Those are some of the ideas I've been kicking around, but I'd love to hear your feedback!
Cheers!
-Marshall

It's great to hear how people are using PrintableHeroes minis and/or how you're setting up your own paper minis. I checked and Gimp should be able to open and edit PSD files just fine :) Thanks for all the great feedback!

2016-01-19 18:20:16 +0000 UTCVTT minis would be awesome!Ive been collecting them for a while and still dont have one for every monster in the monster manual. I recently switched my games to paper minis because packing my regular minis is bulky and i spend alot of time painting them and they are getting chipped. Paper minis lets my bring alot of minis to my games without alot of space and if one gets wrecked its not a problem to print of another one :) That said... Ive come up with a decent way of using paper minis. When i create (and by create i mean find an image online and use it as i have zero art skills) my paper minis ill take the image and scale it to size (28mm) then create a 3mm square black base at its feet, ill copy the layer in gimp and then flip it and connect it at the bottom. I run it through my silhoutte to get a really sharp cut out and then fold it in half a glue it together. once its done i have a completely FLAT mini that i can put into a clear square base that i bought on amazon. Works like a charm! added bonus i can write on the clear base with a dry erase so i can number the minis or mark effects on them. I carry 20 bases in a plastic bag and i use those plastic hockey card holder sheets in a binder to carry all my minis. saves a ton of space. Sorry about the ramble... Id like to see minis with a front and back unfortunately i think they way you create your minis the back side would be a reverse image when i ran it through my silhouette. So im good either way :) Alternate color minis would be great too! Maps and tiles would also be great... especially for VTT The PSD files, i take it you need to have adobe which i dont have? i use gimp, its powerful and free, ill have to check and see if it handles PSD files. Looking forward to 2016. Time to start playing with your artwork and see what i can make of it ;)

2016-01-15 03:50:27 +0000 UTCI would love black and white variants for players to make it feel there own! I think you are headed in the right direction. I am also one of the people who would like backs. While I would love to say do all of them, I think the one back as a reward would be fine.

2016-01-07 15:31:16 +0000 UTCHi, Marshall. I like a lot of your ideas, especially colour variants as patron rewards . I hope you will still be doing the PDF files along side the PSD files, my personal preference is PDF. But, apart from that, the rest are good ideas
2016-01-06 22:18:47 +0000 UTCHi Marshall, Thanks for your amazing figures, they really help bring the table top life without spending a fortune on miniatures. Regarding feedback, Line art, color variants and PSD files would all be amazing. I agree that commissions might be a bad idea, but as an alternative how about a poll for future figures? That way you can stick to doing things you enjoy by giving us a list to choose from, but allow the community some say in what's done next.

2016-01-06 16:15:52 +0000 UTCPersonally I prefer only D&Dish minis, but I don't discount other genres. I figure do what drives you and as long as you're having fun the rest will fall into place.

2016-01-06 05:33:02 +0000 UTCI'll echo what Ron said and add a request for more Star Wars (or generic Sci-fi) and perhaps modern minis. Keep up the great work!

2016-01-06 00:25:33 +0000 UTCThat's good to know. I meant to add a note about releasing files for Virtual Tabletop (edited in my original post now). I'd be interested in how many other patrons would prefer virtual desktop versions of the minis as well. Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback! :D

2016-01-06 00:10:34 +0000 UTCI've enjoyed everything you put out so far, so keep it up in the new year! I think any bonus items you put up for your patrons would be awesome. Especially PSD source files so that we can easily tweak them from colors and maybe a couple of different designs. (Like adding a horn or something, just to make them distinct.) When it comes to back views I don't think getting less miniature packs is worth it in the long run. Granted if it's a requested feature I guess that's something to consider though. Personally I wouldn't use them though since most of what I use is in Roll20. (Virtual desktop.)
