Synder saying you stink of lies is one of my favourite Buffy lines. He's awful but I like him

2024-12-12 22:21:48 +0000 UTCWell said. I like how in the final possession scene, we are (through Grace's dialog) given a glimpse of soulful Angel again (sort of). Giles put it best in the car with Buffy at the end of "Innocence", even if he may feel challenged by those words now. That person - for all his faults - was not the demon that he we all hate for killing Jenny. Some will disagree and that's fine in the meta-discussion and on re-watches. But it seems pretty clear that the viewer needs to be willing to empathize with what Buffy feels for him for the whole story arc to work.

2024-12-12 13:37:50 +0000 UTCIt’s seems like a monster of the week episode but it’s actually an exploration of the main theme of the season as you correctly identified “love and passion “. Or more precisely the consequence of succumbing to passion. Which is the lesson Buffy is learning in her growing up process. This episode is so masterful in showing how Buffy still feels so guilty for “killing the person she loved in a moment’s of passion”. That’s why James, the ghost was able to inhabit her so fully. As Cordelia said “over identify much!”. One of the best written episode of the season. As you said it can easily be seen as a standalone movie but in the context of the show it fits perfectly with the story the writers are exploring.

2024-12-12 11:34:12 +0000 UTCI love how the music in the Bronze (Charge by Splendid) illuminated the sadness Buffy is feeling. The music through out the episode was great. Sarah's acting was amazing throughout. Buffy couldn't understand why the teacher would forgive James because Buffy can't forgive herself for what happened. The teacher, Grace, forgave James because she felt she was also to blame. She made James think she no longer loved him when it wasn't true. But in reality James wasn't the one who was to blame, Grace was. If James was the same age as Buffy he was 17. The teacher should have never been in a romantic relationship with a student at all. Someone who is in position of authority with James. He couldn't let go of a relationship he should never have been in to begin with.

2024-12-12 06:12:15 +0000 UTCThe gang couldn't come to Buffy's aid because the wasps re-enveloped the school after she re-entered. Angel went there because of Dru's "gate of death" vision earlier in the episode. Obviously Snyder's written to be an unlikable character but he's so ridiculously over-the-top and well played (by the great Armin Shimerman) I don't think his adversarial lean towards... well, everyone - is supposed to be taken too seriously. His connections to the chain of command in Sunnydale on the other hand? That's another story.

2024-12-12 06:08:52 +0000 UTCSMG gets me every time, she does pain so well 😭 the next one is probably one of the weakest episodes of the entire series but the two part finale more than makes up for it!

2024-12-12 03:50:12 +0000 UTCI really like this episode, everyone does a great job with a really emotional episode. This is the episode that convinced Joss Whedon that David would be able to carry his own show.
