Wanted to rewatch season 1, so this is a great way to do so! Don't remember if it gets brought up in a later episode, so sorry if it does! But the neighbors didn't turn because they went to the city, but the flour used in the biscuits and raisin cookies. Joel didn't have pancake mix, or get his birthday cake, they didn't eat any biscuits or raisin cookies. Pure luck, until, ya know, about 12 hours later. 😬
