Discussing Strix Halo, RDNA 4, Blackwell, and Zen 6 w/ Hubwood! (Guest Telegrams)
Added 2025-03-01 02:08:43 +0000 UTCThe next episode of Broken Silicon will be joined by Manuel from Hubwood! He just tested Strix Halo, and I want to give it some more love! Additionally, we will of course be heavily discussing RDNA 4, Blackwell, and upcoming APUs from both AMD and Intel!
You have ~24 hours (till Saturday Evening) to submit below!

Hi Tom, this is more to underline something you said on your RDNA 4 reaction video on Friday. If third party reviews are positive, would you recommend people interested in buying a 9070 series card to go out of their way to get one early? The reason being that this might be the only chance to get MSRP pricing for months, possibly the entire year. This could be a year of shortages in general since TMSC’s latest nodes are fully booked according to reports - https://x.com/dnystedt/status/1894940222493958451

2025-03-01 23:19:37 +0000 UTCHi Manuel, is it possible to disable the Infinity Cache on Strix Halo? If so, it would be interesting to see gaming benchmarks on it. I think follow-up designs could make use of even more Infinity Cache.

2025-03-01 23:11:15 +0000 UTCHi Tom and Manuel, I’d like to know whether either of you thinks that APUs will eventually replace mobile dedicated GPUs (and perhaps even desktop) of not only entry level, but also mid range and possibly high end. Could there be any benefit with such a possibility or not? For RDNA4, what do you think of the pricing? I think AMD got a bit greedy, as I believe they could’ve easily priced the 9070 XT at 549$, but 600$ is not bad. The 9070 really just feels like an upseller for the XT being that card AMD would hope you’d buy if the superior option isn’t available. Will AIB partners make the MSRP fake just like Blackwell or not? Do you think that UDNA bringing back the high end will depend on RDNA4’s success or not? If so, how well does it need to succeed? How much marketshare does AMD need to regain to even consider getting back up? What response should we expect from Nvidia if this generation does well and the 5070/ti performs/sells poorly?

2025-03-01 21:30:33 +0000 UTCThe sentiment around the RDNA4 reveal has been generally positive, and right now AMD is taking up a lot of spots in the Amazon GPU top sellers in the US due to low Nvidia stock. The $50 price difference between the 9070 and 9070 XT is creating some confusion, but overall people seem to be happy. Even my friend that doesn't follow gaming hardware anywhere near as much as I do messaged me with a link to the LTT video on RDNA4 yesterday and talked about how excited they were to try and get one. My question here is: Assuming RDNA4 succeeds (AKA has enough stock to somewhat satiate GPU demand in the market) what do you think Nvidia will do to respond? Jensen really hates any time Nvidia doesn't win outright which is why we see stuff like Super series. Do you think Nvidia will try to flood the market with 5070s and 5070tis eventually, or is something stopping them from being able to do that at the moment?

2025-03-01 12:41:46 +0000 UTCHow do you guys feel about the absence of CAMM2 RAM on Strix Halo laptops, at least so far?

2025-03-01 11:48:55 +0000 UTCI saw other reviews from past MLID visitors where the Asus Strix "tablet" was compared against other 4060 "classic" laptops (e.g. Lenovo) and the price difference was considered a negative point for STRIX itself. IMHO this is incorrect as in this case you're mainly paying the Asus form factor premium price. I have 2 questions: 1) did you consider comparing the Asus 2025 Strix Z13 against the 2024 Z13 top INTEL+4060 based unit? It would provide a better view of Strix benefits at the same price range 2) Do we know if and when more standard Strix thin 14-15" laptops will see the light and the price target? THANK YOU!

2025-03-01 11:04:40 +0000 UTCWith FSR 4 probably requiring some kind of AI accelerators, do you think it will still be made available for older cards or maybe iGPUs? Especially considering that Strix Point or Strix Halo, who are using RDNA 3.5, have neural accelerators on the SoC.

2025-03-01 08:45:08 +0000 UTCI think AMD really wants RDNA4 to succeed. I mean the delay seemed clumsy at first but then as issues of blackwell continued to surface it seems like a pretty good choice. They even made a really good presentation for the products.

2025-03-01 06:34:18 +0000 UTCHow would you guys segment the Zen 6 line up? Let's ignore APUs and just hit the main 3 segments of Ryzen 9, 7 and 5.

2025-03-01 04:24:36 +0000 UTCDo you think we'll see gaming laptops with a Strix Halo APU only and like 64GB RAM? I know that's kind of a workstation type laptop, but I meant more in a gaming chassis with air flow/cooling as a priority with maximum TDP enabled.

2025-03-01 04:22:29 +0000 UTCZen 4 to Zen 5 was not that much of a gaming uplift. Clearly they are better parts but not so much so that Zen 4 is worthless given the right price. Do you think Zen 6 will have what seems like a much larger gaming uplift than we're expecting? Given with how heavy engines/games are getting and 240Hz or more becoming more of a reality (I'll ignore FG and MFG for the time being cause they're straight trash IMO), I think the higher end gamer may want to hit the next plateau in CPU performance.

2025-03-01 04:20:43 +0000 UTCThis is an open ended question but how do you guys feel the GPU market will play out this generation? It's the first time in a long time Nvidia's perception has been hurt (even if it's not a "killing blow") and AMD seems to be launching a very compelling product with the 9070XT at the right price.

2025-03-01 04:14:35 +0000 UTCDepending on how close AIBs stick to MSRP they may have a point though. If you can grab a 9070 XT for 599 its pretty good, but if the Sapphires and Powercolors of the world push for 700-800 their whole shtick of "<$700 is where most gamers buy"starts falling apart a little.

2025-03-01 03:20:08 +0000 UTCImagine it's March 6th: Would you rather have a premium AIB RX 9070 XT model purchased off the shelf at Micro Center for about $750, or a RTX 5070 Ti purchased from an eBay scalper for $1200? I predict that 9070 XT will be a drastically better value when real world prices rather than MSRP are considered, and tech media saying 9070 series MSRP "should have been a little cheaper" are missing the point.

2025-03-01 02:27:27 +0000 UTCFramework just made some waves with a Strix Halo mini desktop PC. Do you think there is enough of a market for tiny desktop AI pcs to warrant a product like this, regardless of who makes it?

2025-03-01 02:27:05 +0000 UTCWith RDNA4 pricing now revealed. There are more tariffs on china for semiconductors coming soon. How do you see this possible 25% price increase starting April 2nd shaking up the gpu market? Would this drive consumers towards AMD since they have lower tier pricing to start with and price consumers out of the Nvidia market given their current high prices? Most likely the used market would see increased volume and pricing increases as well if that were to happen.
