XBOX One Reveal & Launch Window (Die Shrink Telegrams)
Added 2022-04-19 23:19:51 +0000 UTCIn the last set of polling, it was clear there was a desire by the fans to have a discussion about the XBOX One launch (after we talked about past GPUs and Handheld gaming)...so here we are!
You have less than an hour (sorry, weird scheduling this week) to submit your thoughts about the initial XBOX One reveal, launch, and everything around the early era of that console. This isn't a post mortem on the entire console...this is a look at what we think about that initial launch and the early parts of that gen on the Microsoft side.

I remember a lot of people saying that just getting an Xbox one was one of the best value bluray players you could get, as of a couple years ago. Ps4 was probably included in that but I don't remember.

I want a nice one and im willing to pay around 150 and would like it to be able to puch 4k. Thanks if anyone can help me out. Will be hooking it up to a shitty tv but hope to get a LG oled soon

2022-04-20 15:35:39 +0000 UTCThe original xbox made a 11th hour switch to Intel. So considering Microsoft's buddy buddy in the same pea pod relationship with Intel, what made Microsoft went back to AMD?
2022-04-20 04:29:23 +0000 UTCI remember in the lead up the the launch Microsoft announcing the requirement to be always connected to the internet. It was very off putting to me. How do you feel Microsoft has handled DRM and how multiplayer have gone from being local to always online?
2022-04-20 00:20:02 +0000 UTCI remember buying the X-One for Master Chief Collection. Actually turned the console into Gamestop to get a PS4. The E3 conference didn't phase me but the shoddy game releases turned me away. As well, Xbox Live Gold was not worth the buy in. Now, I'll buy game pass for PC if there are games I want to play. (Not currently subscribed to GPass but have used free trials). Waiting for Fable, unless it is another poor release.

2022-04-19 23:56:22 +0000 UTCI just remembered how poorly the launch of the xbox one was and how it pushed me in to pc gaming. Despite that horrible launch xbox did improve over the years. I really like the backwards compatability, game pass and pc support. Xbox came along way hopefully they can keep up the momentum.
2022-04-19 23:54:45 +0000 UTCAs 13 year old when it launched, the accessories stood out to me the most. I had spent many hours on 360 kinect with my sister but the only thing that I used One kinetic for was the "Xbox one" feature, which soon became irrelevant once I realized you could just hold the center button on the remote to turn on the console. I remember the new kinect being advertised as tracking much better and having lots of other improvements, but my sister continued to use the 360 kinect over the One when she played with her friends. Maybe the games were just better? The other big thing was the controllers, which in addition to all of the buttons, sticks, and triggers being nicer, playing Forza with the per trigger vibration based on wheel slippage really did help find the edge of grip and improve immersion. The fact that the console itself was slow got me interested in PC gaming when I saw how big of an improvement it was over the 360. People still said it was trash and that had me asking how much better games could look. The big software feature, "Snapping an app" was always disappointing with how well it worked, switching between whatever was up and the game was laggy and unresponsive most of the time, even playing videos it froze often enough, and was always too small given the tiny area of 1080p it was allotted onscreen anyway.

2022-04-19 23:51:08 +0000 UTCHowdy folks! I am an Xbox One Day One Edition owner. It was very clear the console was not finished at release. Upon launch, party chat did not work, game invites did not work. Microsoft's proprietary headset port on Gen1 controllers made every headset on the market incompatible. It took months for them to come out with a $30 adapter to allow you to use your old headsets. IMO, it was not until 2015 or 2016 that software was close to as polished as Xbox 360. Many people I know stuck with their Xbox 360 for this reason. Launch titles (Halo MCC, Battlefield IV, Titanfall 1, ...) didn't help. The Kinect was the biggest laughing stock of all. Almost no games supported it. It was pretty much abandoned by 2016 when the Xbox One S launched. By the back half of the gen, the software feature set was actually awesome, overtaking PS4 in some key areas. Party chat, backwards compatibility, windows integration/cross platform, to name a few.

2022-04-19 23:51:00 +0000 UTCI know it's a meme... But what are your genuine thoughts on XBone as a living room multimedia powerhouse? All that TV, streaming, and other crap that got memed on by true gamers. Was it worthwhile? Could it have been? Was it the right move, communicated poorly?

2022-04-19 23:46:46 +0000 UTCThis article pretty much sums up the attitude towards the XBone reveal pretty well: https://whatculture.com/gaming/xbox-one-5-reasons-not-to-buy-into-the-hype In general, I feel like that was really when the Xbox brand really started losing steam. Between the always online stuff, terrible name, and weak roster of exclusives, Xbox just seemed to be making mistake after mistake, while PC was gaining a huge userbase because of the golden age making gaming PCs very affordable, while Playstation at least had good exclusives to make things interesting. Looking back at it, I think the media functionality of the console was an interesting idea, but honestly, I think they took the wrong lesson from the PS2 and PS3 on that. Those were great because they had games **and** could do the media stuff. Xbone seemed to initially be about the media stuff, with games as a secondary function, right when cord cutting was really taking off.

2022-04-19 23:45:18 +0000 UTCI'm one of those people who jumped from Xbox 360 to the Xbox One on launch day. I bought it for Halo, but I remember having a blast playing the original Titanfall and Battlefield 4 for the first couple of years of owning it. I remember just getting so bummed out, though, when game after game that I looked forward to just didn't live up to my hopes. Halo 5 was a real stinker, and the MCC's multiplayer was completely broken for months after launch. It took years for them to start really rolling out backwards compatibility. Needless to say, after a while I was just sticking with Xbox because it was what I had and knew, and in 2016 I jumped ship and built a PC. From my experience, I don't think this kind of demoralization was unique to me when it comes to XB1 users. How much do you think that general feeling contributed to the success of the PS4 and later the PS5?

2022-04-19 23:40:46 +0000 UTCDo you think they realized “football” in the US and the rest of the world meant two different things ? Because rewatching it, it feels like they saw “football” is telemetry data, and connected it to the NFL only.
