Die Shrink 29: Ampere Features, XBOX SSD, PS5's Situation (High Hanging Fruits 1)
Added 2020-09-25 18:21:12 +0000 UTC
This episode is the high hanging fruit - the things we forgot to discuss about a few popular subjects. RDNA 2, Ampere, PS5 Backwards Compatibility & PS+, XBOX SSD Prices & Game Pass, and rising game prices…
Can anyone please summarize all of the Sony exclusives that were hinted? I can't keep up with all of the channels. Thanks.

Dollar plus ssd's are for xbox are true. It's like, do people really want to buy storage from the original brand and not of a huge allready existing market. Why is Sony so quit about it.

How has Sony not doubled down on its direction to not force customers into their own proprietary ssd bay like Xbox has done it. That's huge when these leaks of 200

Good to hear from you! Love the podcast(s). The notion of overclocking 14Gbps GDDR6 to 16Gpbs on a 384bit bus RTX3090. Any overclocking generally deteriorates performance/efficiency ratio. On the flip side, underclocking likely improves, though to a smaller degree (GDDR6X 21Gbps to 19.5Gpbs). Thus the effeciency gap between the two RAM technologies should widen beyond Microns documented comparison (15%) in a GDDR6 @16Gbps vs GDD6X @19.5Gbps comparison, while bandwidth narrowed. I would expect fairly comparable on Watts. (Yes I watched the video of Quadro vs RTX, but that was more analysis through speculative deduction). That was my thought process is all.
We've seen Micron garbage bin their first iteration of HBM (due release mid-2019). We've also seen nVidia happily spit on their tech partners if they think their stuff is garbage too (TSMC as one example). So, for them both to push forward with GDDR6X. I don't think it can be all that bad.

It only uses less energy at the same speeds as GDDR6. Listen to what I said in my last video - I outline how GDDR6X is clearly not efficient enough.

Opening statements do not make sense, according Anandtech GDDR6X is a more efficient RAM architecture.

It just doesn't make any sense to not sell Starfield on PS5 - why not make the money? What they will do instead is say "It's just $10 a month on PC/XBOX, or you can pay us $70 for the PS5 version." I think that's a way smarter way for them to play it.
Also, I don't think they want Sony buying up tons of other devs too in response to them holding Bethesda hostage. I mean let's just say it would suck if all of the sudden Sony and MS each owned half of all studios...that's a reality that may happen though...

$4000-$5500
I am told Nvidia is being more aggressive in the professional market too....because they think RDNA 2 professional cards could be significantly better than previous AMD gens.

I think whether or not Zenimax games will be exclusive is going to be entirely up to Sony. Want Starfield? Give us God of War and Spiderman. No? Then I guess you don't get it. What they bought is leverage.

Tom is such a Xbox and PlayStation fanboy.
Also I need to know how many animals Dan killed today.
What are you thinking with Quadro RTX A prices? Similar to the versions in the original Quadro RTX lineup or the 6000 will be priced at the current 8000?

TBH, I personally don't get how people have enough games to fill up 1TB of a dedicated gaming console...
Than again, I owned a PS3 for like 3 games, a PS4 pro for one game, a Switch for one game, a 3DS for two games, etc.
So i'm a bit abnormal in that sense.

When I get my PS5, I'm just going to get an external HDD for games and swap them to the SSD when I need them, just like I currently do with steam. How many games do people really need available at their fingertips? Even 150GB game being transferred at 50MB/s would only only take like an hour to swap...
