Dan Carlin's podcasts are amazing! Such a great way to get into the dirty details of everything. I honestly can't recommend that anyone read these books... but if you really want to get into how genuinely insane and depraved Japanese fanaticism was, I would consider checking out The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang RIP and Unit 731 by Derek Pua. I won't go as far as to say the atomic bombs were justified... but I'll just say that it's hard for me to argue against it knowing what I know.

2020-09-06 19:30:38 +0000 UTCGreat reaction as always. You’ll come to find that Eugene Sledge is one of the most tragic figures of the Pacific Theater. If you are interested in seeing more outside of here, check out Ken Burns’ The War. It’s a documentary done in the U.S. made for our Public Broadcasting (PBS) channels throughout the country. It actually includes interviews from Sid Philips who is portrayed in this series. He talks about his experience, as well as Eugene’s a bit as they were best friends until Sledge’s death. Sid’s sister also features prominently in it, giving a perspective of what life was like back in their hometown of Mobile, Alabama.
