Toph was carrying her own weight because she took care of herself. That's the definition of carrying your own weight. But she realized throughout the episode that "carrying your own weight" is not a great defense against the call to serve and invest in a group. Her shutting Katara down was rude, but very understandable considering her childhood. Katara should have backed off and looked at the situation more clearly.

Yeah, I'm sure if you were kept awake all night and I refused to help you at all you'd be a total peach. I'm sorry but Toph wasn't carrying her own weight, that's the point. Also, she was super rude to Katara, like when Katara tried to make up she threw it right back in her face, "Yeah, you do seem pretty tired."..."I meant all of us." Katara was trying to help her settle in, explain how they all pitch in, and trying to sooth things over and Toph shut her down.

I think Katara was kind of an asshole this episode. While she's right that Toph has to learn to contribute as a group member, she should have given her more time to settle in and realize that. After leaving an overbearingly protective household, it's very understandable that Toph didn't want to depend on anyone, or be depended on.

Watching you two discussing this episode afterwards ... there's so much I'd love to say but can't because it ties into what's to come. You touched on some things that you'll be revisiting later, that's for sure. Yes these last couple of episodes are great and very emotionally draining at times but the series keeps getting even better ... on both fronts.

If these episodes are making you feel this way... you are not prepared for whats coming. With that said , i was waiting for your reaction when Azula shot at Iroh. Azula is so smart, sneaky, agile, powerfull and it makes her a great villain. Also love the dynamic between the two groups, Mai/Tai ly & Team avatar. Seriously cant wait for your reaction to the next episodes ! :3

I love how Zuko went head first into that stairless second-floor door. It shows how hot-headed he is unlike his sister whose very calculating at everything.

The conversation between Toph and Iroh is one of my favorite moments in the whole series. I mean how is it possible that two people who have never met before can have such a wonderful and profound exchange. Uncle Iroh love forever.
