For humans, many doctors don't even necessarily have training in GMHs, it's considered a specialty medical field (albiet a large and broad one). Areas with a large GMH population like Jovia usually require some amount of GMH training for human physicians. Having experience with other sophonts than your own species is a much more niche specialty field. I forget her name, but she's in Mel's phone contacts in the beginning of Chapter 2.

If it's for an IV or surgery, an area will be shaved so you can see what's going on+ so the medical tape can stick better. In the previous page you can see the doctor pinching Talita's skin to make sure she doesn't inject it into fur/feathers, which is a really cool detail!

I mean, I assume that it's mostly a set of specialty fields, but, say, do all doctors need to learn a bit of basic check-up/first aid stuff for other species? Also, what's this doctor character's name?

Life, as we know, finds a way to fuck up your day. If materials are not sensitive to radiation you could sterilize stuff simply by storing it in a part of the ship without radiation shielding.
