The Vampire Queen - How I Became The Worlds Last Boss: Chapter 21

Celestia

This past week has been quite an enjoyable one. Rhea and I have trained hard to master our magic to a respectable level. We can both handle magic at about twenty percent of our capacity. With more time and hopefully not too long into the future, we can gain one hundred percent mastery over this awesome power.

I’ve created a few spells for my future encounters with enemies. My first spell is called chaos. I kind of wanted to give it an amazing name, like super amazing chaos balls of destruction, but I thought that would be lame! On the other hand, if you yell that out when casting it at enemies, they will probably feel pretty pathetic dying to something with such a ridiculous name.

Anyway, as to why I named the spell Chaos, that’s because the spell is chaos itself. I fill the world around me with destruction magic, and then condense it into many projectiles. After that, I send a cluster fuck of magic to all surrounding enemies within my range. Probably best used against a large number of enemies. I can send every projectile to one target, but only about half of them will actually connect. Trying to control so many rotating balls of destruction is no small feat.

It takes an insane amount of concentration, and I’m still not used to that type of strain on my mind. Having Rhea close at all times does help fight those effects, though. I’ve got to strengthen my mind, like the way the cradle forced me to face destructive magic. Hieko was explaining to me that the stronger my mind becomes, the less the destruction magic downside will affect me.

In the future, I will be able to use the cradle without going crazy, but that’s still something more theoretical. Hieko and Mila both believe it to be possible. So I’m trying to use more complex types of spells to create an environment for my mind to get stronger. On the other hand, it’s really fun to just fire off tons of destructive magic and watch the world blow up around me.

Maybe I’m some type of pyromaniac. Who wouldn’t feel that way when you literally have everyone’s life in your hands and, on a simple whim, you could end the lives of thousands? I’m not so much of a psychopath to do something like that, but I do feel my sense of morality has gotten weaker the longer I live in my awakened state.

My second ability is to create, with destruction magic, whatever I destroy. I tried it with my scythe, and when I brought it back through destruction magic, it was much stronger. But, after about thirty minutes of use, it completely disintegrated. I found out I have to infuse some of my creation magic into the items I create with destruction magic to get them to become permanent. After I’m finished with the use of a weapon, I just destroy it. I’ve destroyed and reconstructed over a thousand times this past week.

I feel like mastering this type of skill will be very beneficial in the future, and I wanted it mastered for when my arsenal of weapons grows in the future. Using destruction magic as the frame and creation magic as the core seems to be the best way to go forward with any kind of item or structure. Bringing dwarves as a new species through the cradle was also something I’ve been planning for the future. Hopefully they will be as amazing in workmanship here as in every bit of literature I’ve ever read.

Destroying their weapons and recreating them with my magic could bring their creations to a completely new level of lethality. On top of those two spells, I’ve also been working on my visualization. Having ideas about what I can create before I actually have to fight will give me much better odds of winning in any type of situation in the future. I’ve been planning different scenarios through my mind of offensive and defensive reactions.

The last thing on the agenda was learning how to fly, which was the best of them all! Once I talked to Mila about wanting to fly, she just told me to think about the wings I saw on my mother's back and visualize them on myself. There was a tingly feeling right above my shoulder blades and also on my lower back as four different locations sprouted out beautiful wings. I was very surprised to have both sets already. But, on the other hand, look who my mother is, and from that, I should have expected it.

Lucky for us, we had a massive lake right next to our house. So, learning how to fly was done very safely. A fall from high up in the sky would probably not harm me too much, though. All I had to do was send destruction magic into my demon-type wings and creation magic into my angel wings. It was a little tricky at first because there had to be a synergy between the two types of magic with the same amount used.

After multiple trial-and-error flights of going all over the place because of mismatched powers, I finally got the hang of it. I don’t have to actually flap my wings, which gave me a shock. It’s just about the balance between my powers to keep myself in the air. I guess there is a type of flight magic built into the wings? That’s my only guess because I was unable to fly when I would hide them away.

Rhea, on the other hand, also had two sets of wings. How in the world can that be? I guess it was because of her powerful holy magic, which gave her angel wings in the same spot as mine. Wouldn’t it be crazy if she had some kind of relationship with an angel? Maybe Ayliel's interference with my mother had a lot more to it than we even realized. It’s just some speculation I was pondering when my mind was wandering.

She was a little slower to get the hang of flying, but she learned how to do it all the same. We also joined the Mile High Club, but not in the way you’re thinking. It was only kissing as we spun around with each other in the air. It was quite a thrilling experience. Mila was right below us at all times, just in case we ran into any type of trouble while in the air. It gave us a great safety net to use our wings to our hearts content.

When it comes to Rhea’s magic, she has a positive and negative side to her fire. Meaning, if she thinks about our connection, it becomes extremely tranquil and gives off such warmth that it completely calms your mind with strong healing effects. Her only trigger for this type of fire at the moment is her love for me, which still seems to be burning very bright. On occasion, her magic would just erupt out of nowhere whenever I would interact with her.

It was only her calming and gentle fire, so it was no big deal. But when she would think about her hatred towards her family, it would go from a white fire to a much redder color. My only guess about this phenomenon would be because of her vampire transformation. It must have given the fire two forms instead of just one. Without my bite, it would have only healed.

Her barrier magic at this point seems to only contain the ability to tightly surround any target she chooses. It also seems to buff anyone who is within the barrier with stronger defensive and offensive power. When I just use my power alone, I feel a little vulnerable because my body doesn’t have a huge amount of defense. But when her barrier fits snugly around my body, it’s as if I’m wearing skin-tight armor, which gives me the feeling of being unstoppable.

She’s capable of putting that barrier on herself and one other target. Of course, she would never use it on anyone but me. I don’t want to sound cocky or anything, but those were her words. I do feel loved! That’s for sure. Every time we go out, as if it were routine, she puts a barrier around my body. It won’t interfere with our contact being able to completely become invisible. On the other hand, it forces anyone but her away from me. In some ways, it’s an intrusive way to control me and not allow anyone to come into contact with my body. This won’t come back to bite me, will it?

I will just have to have a talk with her if she tries to abuse its power. She’s already pushed Hieko away from me a few times with the barrier, annoyed by my tendency to pet her ears and tails. Who could blame me, though? It was so fluffy and comfortable to rub, and I would easily become addicted to it. Foxes are my spirit animal, after all. There’s nothing I can do about it!

When I gave her a stern look and put my arm around her, she calmed down, releasing the barrier. At the very least, she’s going to have to accept Hieko because there’s no way I’m going to stop petting her. I wonder if Hieko will have a human form in the future. I can only hope. If I create a Kitsune race, I will never be intimate with any of them. It’s just too weird with them being more like my children than lovers. My only hope is that Hieko will turn into a human one day in the future.

I’m sure Rhea, in the back of her mind, is a little worried about my affection going to other people. But, honestly, she will always be number one in my heart, even if Hieko does change into a human-like form. It’s something for my future self to worry about anyway, with no idea if it’s even possible.

The other reason why it was a good time today was because of Astarot’s occasional banter through our connection. A play-by-play account of what he was currently doing to the humans from Trothia. What I could gather is that he was not taking it easy on them in the slightest. On more than one occasion, they tried to turn tail and run for it. But, of course, that mighty dragon wouldn’t let them get away. I swear I can still hear him laughing in caps lock in my mind from all the fun he was having.

Through this incident, I learned about a special feature of our connection from Hieko, where we could send images through our minds. With this method, I was able to identify our two targets, Caroline and Viscount Caldworth. The latter, with Rhea’s help, allowed Astarot to identify the ones he must not kill and gave him full reign to terrorize the others. He seems to have a twisted personality when it comes to playing with his food.

The way he was explaining things over our connection almost seemed like a horror flick. I wouldn’t be surprised if Caroline was driven insane by the time she got to my location. The plan was to lead them to the other side of the lake, where the old Hell Forest used to stand. Remembering what a certain skeleton did in an anime, I also wanted to give off the same huge entrance. It’s about sending a message!

Right now, Rhea, Mila, Hieko, and I are heading to the cradle. There was a mysterious mutation in one of the new species I had created. Somehow, it mutated into a second type of monster during the incubation period.

“Hieko, Mila, is there anything I should be worried about? Are having mutations within those pods a natural occurrence for the cradle?” I asked, puzzled.

‘You remember that disgusting forest, master? Every single monster created by past demon kings mutated within the pods. It tends to follow the will of the creator. So, if you were thinking about anything else during the creation of one of the races, it could have had an effect. Those that came before you were never in their right mind and would always breed weird-looking abominations.’ My face instantly contorts at Hieko’s words.

Could I have messed something up? I don’t want any weird-looking species to be born and create another hell forest. Is there an abort button? I wondered. There is no reason to completely give up hope, though, when I don’t even know what in the world this could mean.

‘Don’t worry, master; I’m sure all will be fine. Hieko was just referring to the worst-case scenario, and nothing is for certain.’ Mila chimes in with sound reasoning.

'Sorry, master, I didn’t mean to worry you. I was just having flashbacks of what happened in the past. I’m sure all will go well this time.’ Hieko hurriedly corrected her words.

“I’m happy to hear that. Let’s hope everything is alright. I would prefer to have no mishaps, especially with the first batch.” My hand is engulfed in my destruction magic as I smash it into the handprint to enter the cradle.

This is actually my first time back in the cradle since the incident from a week ago. I was told all was fine, as somehow, without going into the cradle, both Hieko and Mila knew their condition. As the four of us reached the twelve wooden, clear pods, I got to see for the first time what they actually looked like. Even though I created them, what I saw at that time was more of an outline.

“Tia, look at that!” Rhea points at a certain pod, and my eyes go wide. Also, she started calling me Tia after hearing about my mother; she refused to be left out.

Looking close at the pod, she had similar white hair with red eyes. Fangs protruding from her upper row of teeth, but after that, everything else was different. She had red and black fluffy ears with a matching puffy-like tail. If I had to make a guess of what kind of species she morphed into, it would be a wolf. At the same time, she had human features besides her fangs, ears, and tail.

Is she some kind of vampiric wolf? I mean, I guess I could understand why she would grow a tail and ears because I fancy them. But, to my surprise, it’s a wolf and not a fox. My personality would choose a fox in this situation. She is quite the cutie, though, and I could see myself favoring her greatly over the others. On the other hand, there were also three who followed with the same mutation.

Two males and one other female were all of the vampiric wolf variety, and they looked so damn cute. Every one of the twelve was currently in a ball within their pods, as if trying to cover up or something. I’m sure being viewed by strangers as some kind of oddity behind a clear wall would feel weird. At the same time, I wondered: Are they even aware right now?

With those thoughts, the wolf girl I was studying had her eyes snap open. I was only a few feet away from her pod as she locked eyes with mine. Is this some kind of imprinting? Probably not; I feel like they would know who I am, even if I wasn’t here. It’s some kind of instinctual thing, knowing who their mother is. I feel like that’s the best way to describe our relationship.

She looks at me with upturned eyes and places her hand on the clear window of the pod. There were sharp finger nails, like knives, coming off of each digit. I looked over at Rhea, who had a conflicted look on her face. Knowing her personality, I can only imagine what she’s thinking.

“Rhea, please don’t be jealous. You should look at them as our children.” With those words, Rhea’s eyes widen in deep contemplation. “I have no idea if we can possibly conceive a child through this cradle, but on the bright side, we can view everyone created by it as one of ours.”

“I guess that’s true, Tia, but no part of me is part of them.” Rhea’s head droops down a bit.

“That doesn’t matter at all. You’re now a part of me for all eternity because of my actions in turning you into one of mine. So no matter what I create, it’s also yours. So, please embrace this new life of now being a mom for all those we will bring into this world.” My hand reaches out and holds onto Rhea’s as I turn and place my other hand against the wolf girl’s.

There is a connection I feel between her and me, but at the same time, it’s different from Rhea and the five spirit beasts. Is this something maternal? It’s similar to my desire to protect Rhea and, at the same time, see them live a happy life. Is this what it’s like to become a mom?

‘I would give them another twenty-four hours before they will be ready to be released.’ Mila commented.

It is great to hear. I am really looking forward to meeting all twelve of them. It’s truly becoming real now that we're actually bringing new species into this world. “I can’t wait to meet all of them, as they will be the foundation of what we create here.” I replied

‘Master, master, this mighty dragon has brought your prey to the desired location. Shall I come get you?’ The dragon roared.

I guess the time has finally come to meet that bitch again, and let’s not forget about my prey, Viscount Caldworth.
