“Hello master! I am very happy to meet you! My name is Onyx the Battle Ape, and I secure the forest from any invaders! Please, grace me with your amazing power!” Onyx was so excited, jumping around. He was a giant black ape with dark eyes, not much different from one in the wild or in a zoo in my past life. It reminds me of King Kong and also seems to have a very happy-go-lucky personality.
“Hello Onyx, you sure seem to be excited.” I chuckle.
‘Of course, master, you’re so amazing! To think you would be able to power us up this much! I can’t wait!’
‘Master, as Onyx said earlier about the defender of the forest, we each have set roles assigned. Astarot normally stays at the peak of the mountain, looking over the surroundings. Rollo and Onyx patrol the forests by tree and ground. Mila is the one who will keep order with the new inhabitants. As for my role, it's to stay and guard the master, helping them with any of their needs.’ Hieko says it resolutely to show how proud she is of her role.
“Awesome! I’m glad everything is already set in stone, and I don’t have to dictate your roles. But if you were supposed to take care of the master, what happened to the Demon King?” I ask curiously, not wanting to have the same fate.
‘To put it bluntly, his power was too weak to force obedience out of us. He also refused to have any of us help him in any way besides showing up when he decided to fight an enemy. The former demon king had a twisted personality, and it caused him to go insane. We just kept our distance and hoped for his downfall. Following someone as pathetic of a leader as him was not something any of us wanted.’ Hieko took a very long sigh after probably just reliving some bad memories.
“Well, I hope you won’t feel the same way about me.” Hearing how they can actually force their will even when under subordinate contact makes me feel a little nervous. Also, what is the difference between my contract with these five and the one I now have with Rhea? The connection with Rhea is so much deeper than what I feel with Hieko and Astarot.
‘There will be nothing to worry about, master. I can already tell you will be a great leader and also have the power to back it up.’ Hieko said reassuringly.
“What makes you think I would even be a good leader? I have never led anyone in my life. This whole situation still feels very overwhelming, and I wonder if I will even be able to handle it.” Seeing all five of them in person and having the weight of creating new species on my shoulders is just insane to me. Can I even do this?
“Don’t worry, Celestia. I also believe in Hieko’s words that you will be an amazing leader. The way I see it, you’re very kind to your people but a villain to enemies.” Rhea said it with a smile.
“What gave you that impression? I understand why you think I would be kind to my people, but why do you think I would become a villain to my enemies?” I was very curious about how she came to this conclusion.
“That’s because of what you did to that man, who was bothering you at school before we got tested. I was so impressed that you would actually break someone’s arm who was being rather arrogant right in front of you. He had the nerve to demand that you become his girlfriend, even though you had no interest. The old me probably wouldn’t know how to get out of that situation without agreeing to it.” Rhea took both my hands in hers and said, “I know you can do this.”
"Rhea, you sure have gotten so bold since being turned; it’s quite jarring.” I chuckle. “But at the same time, it feels wonderful to have your support, and I will try my best.”
‘Master, master, can I have my power boost now!’ Onyx starts to jump up and down to get my attention. That’s right, I was about to form a contract with him before I got sidetracked. Biting down on my finger with red blood once again oozing out, I shove it into the greedy eyes of Onyx. Just like with Hieko and Astarot, Onyx also had a noticeable change in his power.
As I watch on as the now-huge ape starts swinging from tree to tree off into the distance, the pegasus approaches me from the side.
'Hello, master, it’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance, and I look forward to serving under you in the future. My name is Mila the Whirlwind Pegasus.’ The sweet, deep, feminine voice of an older sister came out of the pegasus. Her extremely relaxing tone startled me, and at the same time, I enjoyed hearing it. ASMR was something I really enjoyed in my last life, and Mila here would have had a massive following.
Mila was all white, being the complete opposite of Onyx. Her wings and horn gave off the same feel as the fairies. It was a clear crystal with multiple colors depending on the direction you look at it. If I didn’t know any better, I would say it had a divine feel. Her wings had a massive wing span, giving off a majestic feel.
Following the normal routine of blood dripping from the finger, I present it to Mila. She graciously slurps it all up with her surprisingly long tongue. Also having the same reaction as the other’s receiving a big power boost.
"Master, is it my turn?” Said the grumpy-looking wolf most likely annoyed that he was the last one out of the five.
"Yes, it is.” I look at him with a slight smile.
“My name is Rollo the Lightning Wolf. It would be my honor to command your army in the future.” Rollo said it at attention, as if he were some cadet in an army.
“I don’t have any problem with that and look forward to your service.” I gave a reply as if I were talking to a war veteran. My mind couldn’t help but be in awe of his appearance as a silver wolf with a white color on his belly. He had one eye bright emerald, with the other having a scar over it from some kind of brutal battle, I assume. He looks very badass and intimidating.
For the last time, I bite my finger and extend it to the wolf as he licks it clean. He also ran off into the distance after the contract was made. Now it was only Rhea, Hieko, and Mila. The other three are off doing whatever they do.
“Hieko I have a question.” My body turns to her with something I was contemplating.
‘Sure, anything you need, master.’
“What’s the difference between the contract I made with you five and the bond I formed with Rhea? While I do feel the connection with you five, it only feels skin deep. Now with Rhea, it’s much deeper. Why is that?” My hand rose to my chin, pondering as I waited for her response.
‘That’s simple, master. With Rhea, you’re connected by soul and with us; it was more of a contract to obey. While we will without any doubt follow your orders, we cannot, in death, follow you. But if, by chance, you die, anyone bonded by soul will also die along with you. That means for as long as you exist, even if you had another life after this one, Rhea would always follow.’
So Rhea is now bonded in such a way to my existence. She can never get away, and even in my unfortunate death, she would also die on the spot. Looking over at Rhea, I’m curious as to what kind of face she was making. I wonder if she would regret following me.
“That’s perfectly fine.” Rhea said with confidence, “I’ve spent my whole life feeling alone and wishing death would come for me. Why would I fear being tied to the most amazing person I’ve ever met?” Rhea walks over and wraps her arms around my back. “Never feel guilty because I feel nothing but joy at the idea of always being by your side.”
Even though Rhea and I have already said kind words to each other, I feel these hit home the hardest. In my past life, or this one, I was always alone and wished for a deep connection. I want to feel what it truly feels like to be loved. To love someone and have them reciprocate those same feelings back.
I couldn’t help but think about my parents from my last life. A dad who never shows any kind of emotion but at the same time allows me to do what I want without too much hassle. I became crippled and forced to be supported by him even after eighteen, which probably annoyed him. But he still put up with it. Thinking about it now makes me feel pathetic and sorry at the same time. We never really had a very strong connection.
My mom always tried to love, but hers was usually either overwhelming or completely missing the mark. She was overly protective of me as a child, but later on, she was also someone it was very hard to confide in. Her problems would always overshadow the rest of the families and force us all to just keep everything bottled up. If you try to express your feelings about your own problems, she will give the worst responses.
Then my parents from this life—a dad who allows my birth mother to be killed by the wife he cheats on—how is this justice? He doesn’t even seem apologetic, as if seeing my mother as something easily thrown away just because of her status as a maid. But who in the world was my mother to leave such a bloodline, and why did she have to die? Not even having a chance to meet her really hurts.
All I know for sure is that I will destroy that family eventually; they all deserve to die. Treating people that way and acting as if it’s normal. Noble society as a whole is corrupt and despicable. It should all burn, and I’m sure Rhea feels the same way. I look at Rhea, who is now right in front of me with a face full of worry. She brings her finger to my eye, and I notice a water droplet. Am I actually crying?
“What’s wrong, Celestia?” Rhea's face looks on in concern, expecting an answer. I can’t help it, but give in to such a cute face.
“I was just thinking about how much of a failure I was in my last life and then about my mother being murdered in this one before I even got a chance to know her. Life truly is a bitch.” I said it with a sigh.
Rhea’s eyes widen at my response, probably not expecting this type of answer. “You know, Celestia, you don’t always have to act strong; if you’re truly hurting, just let it out. I’m here for you just as you were there for me.” She once again hugs me tightly, encouraging me to let out my emotions.
Hieko and Mila just look on, saying nothing. They both understood this wasn’t their place to interject and could also get a sense of what their master was feeling. With a longing to be loved and a desire to live a fulfilling life, both their eyes met each other's, and they nodded. Whatever it took, they would make their masters wishes a reality.
As I was in Rhea’s loving embrace, I couldn’t help but finally break down for the first time since I was born into this world. All the bad emotions I kept bottled up inside, whether they’re from the last twelve years or my other life, all came rushing to the surface. I allowed myself to melt into Rhea’s embrace as I buried my face in the nape of her neck and just let it all out.
Rhea just stays quiet, allowing me to relieve all my stress. She just kept holding me tightly and would rub my back with the occasional “I’m here for you” whispered into my ear. I see myself falling even harder for this girl, even after everything she’s been through. Rhea really is strong to be able to recover herself after what she has experienced.
We spent the next fifteen minutes in an embrace as I let out all my feelings. With this, I should now only move forward and stop worrying about what happened in the past. I’m Celestia Voltaire now! Of course, I’m not forgetting about certain individuals who deserve some retribution in the future.
