Porcelain Pin Insulator

1. I started with a quad sphere, cut the bottom off then extruded down to follow the guide.

2. Working in a Mirror object and cut the saddle shape in, reworking the geometry to remove triangles and keep edge flow.

3. So the bottom part of the saddle is pretty hard, especially without any indication on the blueprint. Thinking you'd probably have to boolean out the shape then retopo.

4. So rather than using a boolean, I reduced the poly count by deleting every second loop so that I had less to adjust in that difficult area.

Working file with all the steps is attached.

I probably won't do a tut but will give you my working. The quad sphere should make it pretty straightforward to cut out the saddle.

I did the outline with vertices then used the spin modifier. However, I really struggled to create the "saddle" on the top. I also used photogrametry to create a mesh then remeshed it and got a workable result. I like your approach with the quad sphere, Is this shape useful for a tutorial?
